Auto battle is an option you can toggle on/off to set the game to fight for you. This is primarily used for farming materials or experience, as you can set your character up in an area and then have the game constantly defeat the monsters as they respawn.
Additionally, you can toggle on autobattle so the game will auto-use skills for you (based on your settings) but still control other aspects of your character manually. This can be useful when fighting bosses, when you want to focus more on your positioning or avoiding attack mechanics instead of mashing attacks and skills.
Autobattle will:
Constantly use your normal attack
Use healing potions to heal you if your HP drops below the threshold you set for when to auto-use a healing potion
Use your class, active, and familiar skills when they are off cooldown unless:
You are using semi-auto mode
you have a healing skill and your HP has not dropped below the threshold you set for when to auto-use a healing spell
you have a healing familiar skill that only heals, but your HP is not below the threshold
healing familiar skills that also have a second effect like a buff will be used automatically off of cooldown regardless of your HP
you have a buff skill, but another player in your party has used the same buff skill and theirs has not expired yet
Autobattle will not:
move your character outside of the initial zone you specifed
swap which of your 3 weapons is active
use your weapons' charge burst attacks
dodge roll or jump out of the way of an attack
swap your deck to another one
The autobattle icon is found to the right of your familiar skills. It cycles between 3 states: off, auto, and semi-auto.
Auto battle is set to off
Auto battle is set to auto
Auto battle is set to semi-auto
Long-press the auto icon to bring up a menu that lets you adjust your settings. You can set the range where your character will engage with and fight monsters, whether skills with movesets built in (like Swordsman's spinning slash) will include the movement part or not, and set specific skills for autobattle to use or not use.
When you first open the menu, you'll see your range setting as a green target area around your character.
Moving the range slider up or down will adjust the green targeting area so you can see exactly how far away your character will try to attack monsters.
You can adjust which class, active and familiar skills are used. Any icon with a refresh icon on it will be used by auto battle (by default all of them are set.)
You can toggle specific skills off, and autobattle will no longer use them, leaving you to manually activate them if you want to use them.
