The Familiar Forest is a peaceful little glen where all your familiars are gathered. You can enter the forest any time you want to hang out with them. Unfortunately, you cannot interact with any of your familiars directly in the forest.

Every day, some of your familiars will offer you gifts. These gifts will reset at the game's daily reset time (4am JST), so be sure to visit daily to maximize the gifts.
Familiars who have gifts for you will run up to you when you enter (and will follow you around until you accept its gift.) Tap on the gift icon to receive all available gifts at once (previously gifts had to be accepted individually, but this has been streamlined.)
Gifts can include several different items: constellation pieces, eggs, dream fragments, and hourglasses. The amount varies per gift.

Social objects
Social objects
You can acquire a variety of social objects, typically as quest rewards. These objects can be added to your forest, and can be interacted with in various ways. For example, you can water planters, set off fireworks, or light a bonfire.
While these don't provide any boosts to your character or familiars, it's a fun way to customize your forest and can provide you with some photo opportunities.
Objects are stored in the bottom option on the left. You can pull things out of your inventory to add to the forest and return them if you're done. Each object has its own set of interactions.
