Equipment can be upgraded in a variety of ways to increase their base stats and skills.
All equipment has a max level of 30. They are upgraded with the appropriate type of equipment polishing bag. The more stars a bag has, the more EXP it will provide to the equipment. Weapon polishing bags have elemental affinity, and provide extra EXP to weapons of that element. Armor polishing bags and Accessory polishing bags do not have affinity, nor provide bonus EXP, so use them on anything and everything you want to level.
Polishing bags can be acquired from quest rewards, and as drops from certain types of enemies, especially in the Chaos Field dungeons.
Choose the piece of equipment you want to level up, and then then materials you will use to do so. The gold cost is relative to how much exp you are putting on the piece of equipment.
Polishing bags are the primary material used. Although you can also use fodder equipment to boost your base equipment's level, they provide very little exp compared to polishing bags, and it is usually better to disassemble unwanted fodder equipment instead.
Once a piece of equipment reaches level 30, you will not be able to level it up any more, and it will appear as dimmed on the level up screen. Boosting the equipment's grade will increase its star value and reset its level to 1, allowing you to level it up again.
Equipment grade can be boosted once it reaches level 30, to a maximum of 6*. Equipment of all base rarities can be boosted to 6*, but the material and gold investment for it makes for diminishing returns for 1* or 2* equipment.
Boosting an equipment's grade will increase its base stats and reset its level to 1, so you can level it up some more and continue to boost its base stats.
The number of available gemstone slots are based on an equipment's star level, so boosting its grade is how you can equip more gems on a piece of equipment.
There are separate grade boosting materials for weapons, armor, accessories, and orbs. You will need an increasing number as the star level increases.
Weapon grade boost materials come in two forms: an element-specific version which can only be used on weapons or orbs of that element, or a rainbow version which can be used on any weapon (rainbow materials do not currently exist for orbs). Element-specific and rainbow boost materials can be combined to reach the requisite number for grade boosting.
You can boost the base stats of equipment by using strengthening stones of the appropriate type. The current strengthen level of a piece of equipment is denoted by a green +Number on it.
Round strengthening stones will strengthen equipment up to +10 points, triangle strengthening stones from 11-20 points, and square strengthening stones from 21-30 points. Weapon and orb strengthening stones have elemental affinity but rainbow stones can be used on any element weapon or orb.
Strengthening equipment has a chance to fail for every boost past +1, and failure chance increases at each level. You will usually get lucky clovers to kind of recompense your loss.
After reaching certain strengthening levels, failing a boost can cause the weapon to break. You will need to use an anvil (levels 10-19) or golden anvil (levels 20-29) to restore the weapon so you can try to strengthen it again.
You can see the success rate before you confirm an attempt to strengthen a piece of equipment. Tapping on the magnifying glass under the new strengthen level will show you how the equipment's stats are boosted if strengthening succeeds.
If you have a green +level on a piece of equipment from strengthening it, but you acquire a new, better piece of equipment, you can transfer the strengthen level to the new equipment.
The new equipment must not have any strengthening levels on it. You can only transfer to equipment of the same type.
Be aware that you will lose the base equipment after you transfer its strengthen level. It should only be done when you no longer want to use the base equipment!
Awakening is a method that uses duplicate copies of a piece of equipment to boost your original one by upgrading its base stats and skills. This is the only way to boost equipment skill abilities.
Equipment can have an awakening level between 0 (unawakened) and 10 (fully awakened). Increasing the awakening level will only boost the ability of the first skill; the second and third skills (when learned) have a fixed value based on the equipment's base star level.
Awakened equipment will have a dark blue circle with the awakening level value on their inventory icon.
Awakening is the last (bottom) option in the equipment upgrade screen. Choose a piece of equipment and then as many base copies as desired to boost its awakening level by one.
Tapping on the magnifying glass will show you how each awakening level will boost the equipment's base stats and skills.
Adding the first awakening level on a piece of equipment will have 100% success rate with one base copy. After that point, awakening will have a chance to fail. You can improve the odds to 100% by including more copies of the base equipment. The number required depends on the initial star level/rarity of the equipment. 1* and 2* equipment need increasing number copies of the base equipment for almost every awakening level. In contrast, 4* equipment generally only need one copy to increase level until you reach level 6; to get to level 7 you will start needing more.
You do not need to boost your success rate to 100%; however, if you fail, you lose all the base copies of the equipment and the gold you spent on it, and only gain a lucky clover or two as compensation. Particularly for higher rarity equipment, you will want to make sure you have enough copies for 100% success before increasing awakening level.
Note that even if you have boosted the star level of a equipment, you can use base copies of that equipment for awakening. For example, if you boosted your 3* mighty necklace to be a 4* mighty necklace, you can still use base 3* mighty necklaces as awakening fodder to boost its level.Â
