Familiar Adventure (Familiar Search) is a game mode that can be found under the Challenges menu. Visually, it resembles a hexagonal tile tabletop board game. You send out parties of familiars to Search Spots in order to fight other teams of familiars. Winning these battles provides a variety of rewards.
NOTE: Numerous updates were made to Familiar Adventure on 9/14/2023 in order to accommodate new material drops and are detailed on the Familiar Ultimate Evolution page.
You will be introduced to Familiar Search in the main story mode. Once you clear it the first time (to advance main story), the option will remain unlocked in your menu, and you can replay the mode whenever you want. Each day you will receive a certain number of free entry tickets; this increases as you level up the mode. Free entry tickts do not roll over. You can purchase additional tickets with diamonds.
The landing page for Familiar Search will show you several important details, including:
Number of entries left in the day
The left ticket count is your daily count, which resets daily for free.
The right ticket count is for tickets you purchased through various means or earned through rewards. These tickets do not expire.
Time until the search spots reshuffle (every 6 hours)
Potential rewards from search spots
After entering the mode, tap on the globe icon on the bottom right to bring up an overview map. Here you can see where all the search spots are, including the encounter type and the level. More of the map is revealed as you level up the mode, which also increases the type of search spots available and their levels.
The search spots are shuffled every 6 hours. If you don't like the current selection, you can wait until the map is reshuffled and try again later. You can also reshuffle the map once per day for free, and additional times with diamonds.
Beast icons indicate a familiar battle only. Their color indicates the element of the primary familiar in that fight (such as red for fire or purple for dark.)
Purple rounded crystal icons indicate an obsidian mine.
Light pastel narrow diamond icons indicate a prism mine.
Bright blue broad diamond icons indicate a diamond mine.
Yellow crown coin icons indicate a gold mine.
x2 indicators over a mine mean you will spend 2 tickets to get twice the reward.
You can use the overview map to scroll to a zone, or scroll to that area manually on the main board view. Tap on an encounter to review it or to initiate a battle.
Familiar search spots are represented by a familiar. The familiar on the map indicates the strongest familiar in that battle party.
Tapping on the three bars icon will bring up info about the search spot. Tapping on the crossed flags will bring up the battle selection screen.
The Search Spot info screen shows the full team of familiars in this spot, their combined power level, and the rewards you will get from defeating them. This is a major source of peapod familiars, toy boxes, and constellation materials.
When initiating a battle, you select up to 5 of your familiars. Consider both your total combat power as well as elemental affinities/weaknesses when creating a team. Although you can send in less than 5 familiars, it's not recommended to do so unless your team's combat power is significantly higher.
In the battle phase, you can't actually do anything except watch both teams of familiars fight it out. You can speed up the animation by tapping on the 2x icon, or skip it entirely by tapping on the fast forward icon.
If your team is victorious, you will immediately earn the rewards from that search spot.
There are several different types of mines that provide differing materials.
Obsidian and prisms are used to level up your kingdom. You should collect them if you regularly donate to your kingdom, but there isn't much of a need to build up large stockpiles as you can donate a limited amount of these per day.
Gold is pretty self explanatory. As you can acquire gold through numerous other methods (such as farming for coin drops and as various event rewards), it may not be efficient to use this method to acquire more.
Diamonds are used in many ways in the game and are also pretty self-explanatory. These are an excellent target for all players and should be balanced against your need for peapod familiars, constellation pieces, or toy boxes.
For all mines, a yellow (x2) icon may appear above that mine. It costs two tickets to challenge these mines, but will return you with twice the reward. These make them enticing targets for efficient mining.
Each type of mine has a distinct look, and higher level mines have more elaborate icons. Tapping on the three bars icon will bring up info about the mine. Tapping on the crossed flags will bring up the battle selection screen. Battles follow the same process and rules as Familiar search spots.
The Search Spot info screen shows how long it will take to mine this location, the full team of familiars in this spot and their combined power level, the amount of material you can mine from this location, and any additional rewards.
If your team is victorious, they will start mining at the spot. You can tap on the search spot and the 3 bars icon again to bring up the info screen, which shows how much time is left before they complete mining.
The team is considered busy while mining is in progress, and their team slot will be filled until mining is complete. As you level up the mode, you can send out additional concurrent parties. In this screenshot, one party slot (out of five total) is taken up by a team of familiars mining.
If a familiar is part of a current mining team, it will be unavailable for other battles. Its icon will have a red 'busy' label and cannot be selected when initiating additional battles. Keep this in mind if you want to mine multiple spots at a time, as you may need to split up your strongest familiars if you want to win the fights.
As you play the mode, you will earn experience, and eventually level up the mode. Higher levels increase the available map area, the number of free entry tickets daily, the number and levels of search spots, and the number of concurrent teams you can have out searching/mining. You can review your current status by clicking on the familiar icon in the bottom right.
