"Needless annoyances, confusingly named modes, & useless hype functions. But surprisingly, it does work well in power mode, and imo excellent value for money"
My motivation for purchasing the Armour Ultra was investigating new-fangled modes such as 'Pulse', 'Boost', 'Smart' and 'Eco'. It turns out that my scepticism in the ridiculous sales hype is well-placed. I found simple functions disguised behind fanciful but confusing names, and almost a complete lack of info in the user manual.
However, even though I despise Vaporesso's marketing glorification (of course they're not unique in this), the Ultra can imo make a cost-effective & respectable Dimitri mod if the user understands how to operate it correctly, and can live with its annoyances.
🙁 User confusion Questionable functions with misleading names, masked by ludicrous hype & fake innovation. User manual practically useless. Almost impossible for the average user to obtain proper info on what the functions actually do and whether they're of use, or simply illusory placebo gimmicks
🙂 Works very well in "power mode" Simple Wattage mode is actually "Eco" mode with "Smart" disabled. During 0.3Ω 30W load testing, Wattage delivered was within 0.4W of the Solo V1 standard and (surprisingly) it's unaffected by the SS firmware bug, handling stainless steel coils every bit as well as nichrome Ni80 or Kanthal Ka1.
🙂 "Time to Full Charge" shown on display during charging, which is imo handy
🙁 Claimed 5500mAh internal Battery Apparently a blatant lie. As far as I can tell, my own is between 3.8 and 4.1mAh, assuming a nominal 3.6V and 100% charging efficiency. This still compares favourably with other mods (3200mAh claimed for the Geekvape Mini 5)
🙁 Locking slider operates with very little resistance, easy to switch over accidentally. Also, superfluous since 4 clicks on the fire button achieves exactly the same thing
🙁 Button design I keep wishing the up/down buttons were chunkier and had a more definite feel as feeling for them in the dark whilst half in hyperspace can be tricky. In a perfect world I'd also prefer a larger and more conventional shape for the fire button.
🙁 Display Layout During a fire cycle the only field updated is puff duration, all others are static. Also, there's no Voltage or Current display - a disappointment for me at least.
🙂 Large Wattage field readout but resistance, puff counter, TC Wattage fields needlessly microscopic
🙂 Unusually bright display when set to max intensity
Boost
Pulse
Eco
TC-TI, TC-SS and TC-NI
Smart
Watt Lock - disables up/down buttons, so also acts as a temperature setting lock in TC modes
TCR lock - ?
