"A few quirks, but IMO a rock-solid no-frills restricted airflow MTL tank that performs briliantly"
The Siren 2 is available in 22mm and 24mm versions, the only real difference appears to be the dimensions & juice capacity.
Overall, I've found the Siren V2 22mm to be a refreshingly simple & inexpensive Mouth To Lung RTA that works extremely well. It's totally devoid of gimmicky addons or aftermarket accessories just doing a brilliant job right from the box. And while not perfect, I have zero hesitation in heartily recommending it to anyone thinking of exploring Dimitri vaping using a restricted & controled MTL airflow.
💡 If you're unfamiliar with what's meant by "Mouth To Lung", see the Glossary page
I now have 3 Siren V2s, all impressive apart from one which needed a little filing on the quick release cap mechanism (see pic) to allow the cap to rotate though the full quarter turn (I used a thin dremel grinding wheel as my smallest file was too thick to fit the groove). Once completed it was much improved.
Despite much scrutiny, unusually for a clone I haven't found one single shred of residual swarf. The base fits nicely without problems, the glass isn't prone to falling out when disassembled and the airflow ring operates with an ideal amount of turn resistance.Â
Another bonus is that it holds my knockoff 510 extended driptips securely without wobble, none of my other MTL tanks do this.
One of my 3 Sirens needed some filing in the area shown to allow the cap to fit as designed. The silicone seal is a great idea, replaces two O-rings & adding a resistance to the cap fitting. Â
Some dimensions are bafflingly large. For example while the gap available for coil turns is typical for MTL (~3.5mm), almost unlimited space exists for larger diameter coils (7.9mm between posts).Â
Also the wire terminals are huge, with 1.5mm unscrewed jaw gap (the supplied 26ga coils are a mere 0.4mm).
The coil sits at an unusually high position above the base, which can make for long wick legs. This, together with open juice wells is described as a "Genesis Tank Atomiser" by Digiflavor. Maybe a little gimmicky, but works well and once the coil is installed I found wicking to be the easiest I've tried on any tank.
Another strange 'feature' is the sideways terminal screw. Fine for round wires but flat ones need a 90° twist to engage the clamp screws on the longer flat side of the wire (see pic). No big deal, but corrected in the Siren V3, whose only real difference appears to be mounting of these screws in a vertical position.
The M2.5 x 3mm terminal grub screws are a little shorter than I'd ideally prefer when fitting fine MTL wires. I've replaced mine with M2.5 x 4mm cup point equivalents which give 2 extra threads of engagement and more confidence against thread damage.
One minor annoyance is the base O-ring which falls out as soon as the base is inverted when unscrewed from the body. I guess a slight smear of cyanoacrylate or similar glue might help secure it.Â
Some oddities including the clamp position but nothing to spoil the refreshing ease of wicking
Flat wires like this (2x30)+40 clapton require a 90° twist on each coil leg (as shown) so that the horizontal grub screws grip on the longer surface of the wire.
The Siren V3 deck. Almost identical apart from vertical clamp screws which, according to Digiflavor's grandiose claim "unlocks more possible coil styles" 😜
Circular wires like this MTL 28+40 single cored clapton don't need the twist.
At the time of writing, I've tested the following setups/mixesÂ
Dual cored (2x30)+40 fused clapton 1:3 of 65/35 PG/VG. High teens Watts with 6-7 sec tokes seemed optimum
Single cored 28+40 clapton 1:2.5 60/40 PG/VG. Low-mid teens Watts with 6-7 sec toke seemed optimum
Both coils 5 turns inner diameter 3.0mm, airflow ring set to expose the smallest 2-3 holes.
A single toke of either above delivered a very pleasant L2 experience, with a supplemental toke or two of suitable duration pushed well into L3 (Levels Of Intensity)
Another pleasant surprise is that all my three Sirens grip the Wish/Aliexpress extended 510 curved driptips fairly securely. So far this is my only MTL tank to do this.
Overall a very pleasing performance showing up the MTL characteristics of warmer vapour very well. Â
Left is the stock M2.5 x 3mm cup point grub screws. A tiny bit short for comfort, I've replaced mine with 4mm equivalents (right)
If you're interested in experimenting with MTL Dimtri vaping then expect the Siren V2 22mm to provide the full experience in a simple and affordable package, working extremely well and almost right from the box. Â
Moreover, it performs brilliantly without questionable features such as gravity fed wicks & juice control, and unlike some other specialist MTL tanks, there are no aftermarket addons such as extra DLC wicks, reduction chambers, airflow restrictors, improved build decks and many other dubious money-pit extras. Sadly this is not true of many other specialist MTL tanks where manufacturers appear to take full advantage of the kind of expenditure escalation mindset that is common in other retail sectors
If you live in an Aliexpress-friendly country then spare glasses and O rings are cheaply available for the Siren 2, especially making this a long term sustainable option if desired.
Pros
Does exactly what it says on the tin, simple and effective.
Juice capacity near ideal for my own MTL juice strength preferences
Once set up, fairly foolproof/easy to live with. For me, a highly lovable tank
Amazingly, it seems to hold my knockoff 510 driptips fairly securely/wobble-free
Spare glasses and O ring kits are cheaply available on Aliexpress (for UK customers at least)
Wick trimming greatly facilitated by the open juice well design
Ideal (IMO) airflow range for exploring the use of MTL restricted airflows in Dimitri vaping
Cons
Had an odd side-screw clamp design, so a 90° twist is needed on coils legs if using flat wire. If this is an issue for you then consider sourcing a Siren V3 instead.
Slightly shorter grub screws (M2.5 x 3) than I'd prefer for this deck
Slightly oversized clamps (1.5mm gap for accommodating wire legs)Â
Base o-ring easily falls out upon disassembly
On the 22mm version as reviewed, the space between the glass and inner chamber is fairly narrow. I can imagine this creating air bubble issues if using unusually viscous d-juices (for example with high VG) but it's not the slightest issue for my own 1:2.5 60PG/40VG mixes. The 24mm Siren V2 may have a slightly larger gap and therefore possibly more suited to thicker mixes if desired.
The capacity might appear small, but recall the efficiency bonus with restricted airflows/lower wattages, my preference for stronger mixes with MTL makes the >2.5ml last much longer than might be anticipated
The best thing since the "Geokvape" tank, now we have a "Digiflaver" 😀 Sadly, my two other Sirens are correctly labelled as "Digiflavor"
Finish of the 510 is typical of knockoffs. I've seen much worse but a good polish with autosol wouldn't hurt.
What's included. The usual spare glass/O-rings/etc. Coils are plain 26ga (0.4mm) wire coils with inner diameter 2.5mm. There's no spare for the chunky cap silicone seal, but in truth I expect this to be lifetime-durable anyway.
