'Must Know's For Carts
Looking for a guide on how to mix juice for carts? See our d-juice page
Mixing
1ml of dimitri-ejuice won't totally fill a 1ml cart. Once the djuice has properly soaked into the cart's atomiser (which, if left to stand may take 20 minutes), expect the level of ejuice to drop significantly. I've found the atomiser on a genuine Ccell TH210 to soak up approx 0.20 ml of PG.
External Heat is not needed to dissolve dissolve dimitri in PG. Very non-waxy spice will dissolve very quickly, but leave an hour or two, stirring occasionally. Anything that doesn't dissolve at room temperature can be considered impurities and better fished out or simply left. Do not use heat to persuade stubborn bits/contaminants to dissolve or, upon cooling, you will risk getting a cart of sticky gel
Use as clean/non-waxy white spice as you can. The cleaner, the longer your cart will last before clogging up and becoming useless
Consider filtering the PG/dimitri juice. This can drastically reduce clogging but may involve small losses.
Avoiding Premature Cart Burnout
For a new or fully drained cart, allow 10 minutes or so after filling to allow the d-juice to soak into the cart's atomiser.
Hold upright when vaping, expecially when the level is running low
When the cart gets low, STOP VAPING - if the cart's atomiser runs dry, a burnout will quickly result
Options When Carts Run Low
Carts have "dead space" at the end - i.e. some d-ejuice which can't be vaped. This is no problem if refilling with more d-juice but what if you don't have any more and just want to get the very last bit of d-juice out?
Put a few drops of pure PG (no dimitri) in the cart. The fresh PG and original d-juice will not mix and this will allow you to carry on for a few tokes more until the fresh PG finds its way through to the atomiser. When this happens the vapour will feel suddenly harsher and have zero effect.
Caution - When filling a cart with d-juice that has been previously filled with pure PG and especially when augmenting with MAOIs, be careful when you use it. This is because the first 10 or so tokes will be of pure PG and then the cart will suddenly start delivering potent tokes.
Vaping Technique For Carts
Harsh Vapour: I've found it less harsh to dilute the vapour from the mouthpiece with fresh air from the corners of my mouth. An alternative and excellent option with the original Palm is to unscrew the magnetic adaptor an eighth of a turn or so, which a totally transforms the airflow through it for the better (for a more permanent Palm fix see this page) . With the Yocan Uni pro, the airflow is less restrictive so it's not as much of a problem.
Why? Carts are MTL (mouth to lung) devices so air throughput is insufficient to directly fill your lungs and you will typically end up with a concentrated pocket of harsh vapour in your mouth and windpipe. At the end of a toke, the natural thing is to inhale - which transports this into your lungs. It's unpleasant and easily results in coughing.
For vaping whilst lying down Attach a short PVC hose to allow vaping whilst lying down (best suited to the hourglass mouthpiece)
For vapourhuasca MAOI-augmentation I find a 350mg dimitri/0.65ml PG mix (approx) to be good option for the Ccell Palm but anywhere up to a 1:1 (0.5g to 0.5ml) is also OK with careful short-toking. With the Yocan Uni Pro I use a 1:1 mix and keep the Voltage to about 3V. The good predictability of carts allows much stronger mixes to be used whilst safely maintaining potency will toke duration alone
Storing Carts (with pure PG/dimitri mix - I haven't tested carts with any VG)
Leaks To prevent leaks from the cart's airholes (near the 510 screwthread), store carts inverted - i.e. upside-down in some sort of holder. Check that both mouthpiece seals are in place and the cap is screwed on firmly.
Carts seem to stay fine at room temperature for at least a few weeks and possibly more but expect the juice to darken in colour. Keeping the cart in the dark (e.g. a seldon-used drawer) will help slow the darkening of the juice considerably
Fridge storage An option for longer storage is to put carts in a zip lock bag in the fridge at approx 5-6°C, inverted as mentioned above
Freezer storage For longer than a couple of weeks, I tend to store my part-used carts in the freezer. They seem perfectly happy in a small zip-lok bag to protect the cart's electrodes from moisture and I haven't noticed recrystallizing from a 1:1 made with pure PG at a standard freezer setting of -18°C (see my instagram here). The "thaw out" also seems very speedy when the carts are held in my hand so no need to remove from freezer multiple hours before use.
I also store my bottles of PG and VG in the freezer and fully expect them to stay fresh pretty much forever like this
