Seriously - get one or more before stocks dry up totally
I've found this mod to be an ideal workhorse for the demands of emesh, 'sub ohm' and any other atomiser that I've ever encountered for use in dimitri vaping. I have used mine for cartridges, emesh, rebuildable and non rebuildable d-juice 'sub ohm' which includes a variety of coiled and mesh RTAs. And in every case the Solo has peformed perfectly and, at times, has been subjected to extraordinarily brutal physical & electrical hammer.
My first Solo (purchased in mid-2020) was used for heavy-duty testing of over-sized meshes as part of the Community Mesh RDA Project, and since then it's been central to most of my online work. It's a little battered, but still performs as brilliantly now as the day it was delivered.
Temperature control performance, although no longer recommended, has been repeatedly confirmed as top tier alongside the (far more expensive) Evolv DNA series, not only in my own experience but in scores (maybe even hundreds) of Redditors/Discorders and Youtube commenters. And AussieGeekvaper (who has an impressive test rig) has also verified it's exceptional TC performance.
Sadly, the new generation of Aegis models have neither the robust build nor the variety of useful functionality. If you're looking for a Dimitri mod, then I strongly suggest trying to obtain at least one original Solo before stocks dry up completely. At the time of writing (Aug 2025), these are still widely available on UK ebay.
Note: we have a trusted trader on the Discord who can supply the Solo Orignal (and other recommended kit) to members almost wordwide. Ask on the Discord if you're interested.
Just one of many Solo-based test rigs for the (now defunct) Community RDA Project
See this page for a detailed description (scroll down to "Modes of Operation")
Power - My own testing has shown the overall performance to be exceptional in this mode
TC-NI, TC-SS, TC-TI, TC-TCR - Temperature controlled modes. Can be handy as an electrical contact confidence check but no longer recommended for general dimitri vaping
VPC - 1 second power intervals to 4 seconds
Bypass - unlikely to be used for Dimitri vaping
The Solo In use
Personally, I love almost everything about it. It originates from the earlier "Geekvape Aegis" where Geekvape seems to have put every effort into building their reputation rather than simpy resting on it, as seems the case with later generation of Aegis mods.
The Original Solo demonstrates exceptional performance in every way I can think of, from it's Wattage accuracy (it is absent of all of the common firmware issues described on this page (scroll down to "Inaccuracies: Dialled-in vs Actual Wattages"), top tier temperature control (although no longer recommended) and the clear display which updates resistance, Wattage and calculated temperature values throughout its fire cycle. IMO it's display is a no-frills masterpiece of clear concise relevance.
One thing has caused confusion among new users. If the mod ever cuts or restricts power to its 510 connector, "Protection" is flashed on the screen alternately with a status message. Perhaps confusingly, this also occurs in temperature controlled mode when the set temperature is reached and the mod begins to throttle Wattage back from the set limit to maintain requested temperature. When this occurs, "Protection" flashes alternately with the temperature, which has deceived many into thinking that a problem was forcing the Solo into some sort of "Protection Mode". But it's perfectly normal.
There have been one or two reports of erroneous "no coil detected" messages. The main cause of this appears to be an occasional manufacturing issue where an oversized blob of solder has restricted travel of the 510 connector's sprung centre pin. The result is fatigue and an eventual fracture on the tag. A fix is practical if you have the confidence/tools to dismantle the mod and re-solder the tag. See links below.
Pros:
A good range of useful modes. Unlike later Aegis models it's mercifully absent of annoying gimmicks
Unlike many other mods (Lost Vape Quest models, Z50, RigelMini, and Vandy Vape Pulse and likely many others), it handles Stainless Steel meshes/coils seamlessly without affecting power delivery
Only a single 18650 battery to buy, and no hassles with balancing
Clear bright display contains all required information without extra button-presses and visible in shady external daylight
Simplicity and ease of use, works faultlessly right out of the box in every mode.
Incredible design/build quality, robustness and moisture resistance (see links below)
Rubber/plastic not cold to the touch in cooler ambient temps
Proven top tier temperature control performance (see links below)
Exaggerated asymmetrical design means easy hand orientation during "dimitri meditation"
Cons:
0.1W power increment is too small for my tastes, I would have prefered 0.5W. However, a long press on the up/down keys will select the next Watt up/down which I find to be a good compromise
The paint/colouring eventually wears off the buttons and parts of the skeletons.
Has USB-B charging port, no longer common on current generation of mods
Rubberised shockproofing on sides, rock-solid 510 faceplate mounting. IMO ideal.
The charge port is somewhat buried within the rubber shockproofing, which might be ideal for liquid ingress protection but means extra care needed when inserting the charge connector.
A few reports of erroneous "no coil detected" messages (see links below)
Dust tends to stick to the rubber shock-proofing exterior which renders an unsightly appearance
It has a monochrome display (personally, I prefer this because it makes a great "tripometer" - i.e. if I can still see any colour in the display, I know for sure I'm not yet fully back down to Earth!)
