Wasp Nano MTL Clone
"Stunning performance if you can live with the cheap & nasty build quality"
There are several Oumier Wasp Nano RTA variations (Nano V1, Nano V2, Nano MTL and Nano Max, see the Oumier website for details). The one reviewed here is an Aliexpress DSX VapeStore clone of the "Wasp Nano MTL"
In many ways it's fairly horrid. Small internal space makes it awkward to wick, thin brittle internal plastic parts, a non-removable moulded driptip, and overall a cheap & fragile feel. I obtained one to test the theory that smaller tanks with a more restriced airflow may be better suited to producing the kind of hot and concentrated vapour to maximise efficiency as well as delivering a very colourful and satisfactory experience.
In this respect the Nano MTL has been amazingly impressive. Using a 5.5 turns, inside diameter 2.5mm (with care down to 2.0mm) of 2x28+30 SS316 fused clapton, a 1:4 mix of 50/50 PG/VG, this little tank produces surprisingly punchy vapour, ideal for building intensity using mid-high 30s Watts on short 4 second repeated slow tokes. Maybe the non-metallic parts absorb less heat from the vapour, or perhaps the smaller airflow passages help, but it does seem to produce noticeably hotter vapour and harder punching tokes (especially the first) when compared to larger tanks with metal internals when used on equivalent mixes/wattages/toking rates.
Headlines
Nasty quality tank with flimsy plastic parts, even plastic screw threads. Tank was sold as gold colour, but much of it is simply a tacky amber coloured plastic. On my first example, the internal body snapped upon disassembly near the fill ports, and I had to buy another.
Upon first opening, instead of just finding the usual fragments of residual metal swarf, there was also much plastic swarf, which was quite novel
Driptip is moulded into the cap, meaning it's impractical to fit standard 810 or 510 extended driptips. I remedied this by using a length of tubing shoe-horned over the fixed driptip (see pic below)
Despite misgivings it gives amazingly punchy performance, seems ideally suited to producing warmer, more concentrated vapour, which in turn appears to greatly maximise potency/vape efficiency
Despite being classed as a MTL (mouth to lung) tank, the airflow is probably more akin to a "restricted mouth to lung"
A very small capacity (see pics below), able to operate on cart-like quantites of juice
Simple design and construction. Bottom airflow, so inner removable airflow chamber not needed
As is common on bottom airflow tanks, build deck is raised over the airways in the base so (like the Kylin Mini V2 and Destiny RTAs) there is no hidden pool of juice in the base.
Pros
Excellent performance with dimitri when set up & used correctly
Useable with smaller juice volumes, although might be too small for some
Simple bottom airflow design, no inner airflow chamber
Complete spare set of O rings included
Cons
Appalling throwaway quality, weak plastic parts, prone to breakage
Limited build deck space (max recommended coil inside diameter 2.5 mm)
A little awkward to wick, but easier than many smaller tanks
I haven't seen any spare O-ring kits available. However I doubt it'll last long enough to need any
An RTA with a juice capacity not too much greater than a cart
Includes a full set of spare O rings, two spare M2.5 cup point grub screws for the clamp posts, plus spare straight glass
Driptip is moulded into the cap, so fitting your own 510 or 810 version isn't practical
My own solution to the driptip issue, beautifully effective. A piece of narrow bore tubing scavenged from a scrapped expresso coffee machine
Dismantled parts. Left to right is cap/driptip (plastic), main body (plastic) and straight glass. Build deck/base is impressive but as for the rest, well I've seen higher quality trash in a McDonalds Happy Meal.
Similar to the Destiny, but even smaller. Thankfully the air holes in the build deck are also raised and mounted into the posts rather than the base (helps prevent leaks from drips).
Top notch build deck, shame about the rest of it. Shown with ID 2.5mm coil, a tight squeeze to fit anything larger.
Coil is fitted centrally & low like this. Side contact can cause "atomiser short" messages, and any contact with the plastic body above may fail to improve the vapour flavour
The current world record holder for the thinnest gold plating on a 510 connector - assuming that really is gold and not just where it got chewed by the rats.
