Destiny RTA Clone
"An insanely good RTA, which you'll likely fall deeply in love with - but wick it properly to avoid leaks"
Hitherto I've been avoiding bottom airflow tanks owing to reports of increased susceptibility of leaking. However with the remake of the rebuildable sub ohm video in progress, I decided to purchase one and investigate further. The chosen example was a clone purchased from Wish, but also available from 2fdeal
Headlines
Overall an impressive quality single-coil bottom airflow RTA clone. The usual rough finish on the 510 connector was soon cleaned up as was the loose residual machining swarf on various parts. But apart from this, a delightfully smooth construction.
Upon initial testing with pure PG/VG mixes, much flooding/gurgling was experienced just after filling, which predicably led to leaking from the lower edge of the airflow ring. I completely remedied this by using a modified wicking technique with a slightly higher volume of cotton placed into the juice wells (see pic below).
Like the Kylin Mini V2. it's suitable for use with smaller quantities of juice, having a smaller capacity and it does not use the base as a lower juice pool
Simple design and construction. Bottom airflow, so no inner airflow chamber needed and little or no airflow restriction when adjusted to fully open
Since modifying my wicking technique, I have not experienced any leaks and this tank has become one of my most regularly used RTAs
Pros
Generally high quality build quality, performs extremely well
Low juice capacity (similar to Kylin Mini V2), highly useable with smaller juice volumes - a major plus for me
No hidden base-resident juice pool (unlike Zeus X, Dead Rabbit V3, Arbiter V2 and many other RTAs). Its base shell contains airways, no juice.
Simple bottom airflow design, no inner airflow chamber, amazing airflow (if needed)
Cons
Slightly limited build lateral deck space (max recommended coil inside diameter 3.0mm) but miles more winding space than the Blaze Solo)
Spare O-ring kits for this tank are either unavailable or hard to find (I cannot find any despite much searching)
Can be prone to slow leaks from air inlet holes if incorrectly wicked (a tutorial video will be published on this page in due course)
Juice capacity with straight glass very similar to the Kylin Mini V2
Includes a full set of spare O rings, two spare M2.5 cup point grub screws for the clamp posts, plus bubble glass
Limited coil space (shown with ID 3mm coil), between elevated air inlet ports. Screws are M2.5 rather than the M3.0 of the Kylin Mini V2
Nicely set up. Ensure sufficient cotton is fed into the juice wells, or it'll leak out through bottom of the air adjustment ring. Not too much or it'll juice-starve in a couple of hits. Do it right and it'll be remarkably leak-resistant whilst giving great hits
The lower side of the airflow ring has been a leaking point, totally cured for me with a slightly modified wicking technique
Rough finish on the 510 centre pin, but simple to remedy in a jiffy
As usual with clones, some leftover manufacturing swarf in places, here the juice wells. Cleared by scraping with a small flat bladed screwdriver
Huge kidney-shaped fill ports
The base section parts. To dismantle, unscrew & remove the brass 510 screw/insulator. The build deck then unscrews from the main base section as shown
