An algebraic fraction is a fraction where the denominator comprises of an unknown variable (See examples below)

Solving Algebraic Fractional Equations

On this page, we are going to learn the steps to solve algebraic fractional equations.

Step 1: Factorise the denominators

Examine the denominators and factorise any quadratic expressions where possible.

Step 2: Express as a single fraction on both sides.

Step 3: Cross-Multiply both sides and form a quadratic equation.

Step 4: Solve the Quadratic Equation.

Use any of the methods taught:

Step 5: Check!

It is compulsory to check here for accuracy and for rejection.
