At the end of this chapter, students are able to:

1. State the definition of a function and use function notation.

2. Find the range of a function for a given domain.

3. Determine if a function is a 1:1 function and restrict a domain for an inverse function to exist.

4. Find the inverse function.

5. Find the composite function of 2 functions.

6. Apply the modulus function and solve modulus equations.

7. State the 4 conic sections.

8. Find the critical points and lines of symmetries for ellipses.

9. Find the critical points, lines of symmetries and asymptotes for hyperbolas.

10. Sketch rational functions.

11. Solve inequalities involving a rational equation with linear or (factorisable) quadratic numerators and denominators.

12. Sketch the transformation of a graph.
