LPCI Library Learning Commons November 4, 2022 Newsletter

Engage, Inspire, Empower

Our goal is to support the success of our students, to promote a life-long enjoyment of reading, and to provide knowledge building experiences with 24/7 access to information in a welcoming environment that is conducive to learning.

We  strive to achieve this goal through attention to Equity, Well Being and Achievement.

This week's virtual library tip - Search for books by your favourite Canadian authors like David Robertson or resources to support inquiries in LPCI Catalogue. Limit your search to print, ebooks, audio recordings, streamed media etc.

Listen to celebrated Canadian Indigenous author David Robertson, read from one of his young adult books, Strangers. All books from the Reckoner series are available in our Library Learning Commons in print, ebook and audiobook.

I READ CANADIAN DAY is Nov.2 but LPCI students can keep reading Canadian books all year long.

November is Indigenous Education Month at the Toronto District School Board.

From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed. The red flower also is the symbol of the Legion's Poppy Campaign, raising funds to support Veterans and their families in need.

"In Flanders Fields" is a poem written during the First World War by Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae after he presided

over the funeral of a friend and fellow soldier.. So many years later, his poem continues to poignantly express the tragedy of the losses of war, and the importance of carrying on their memories.

See the Remembrance Day resource document in November Days of Significance prepared to help our LPCI community learn more.

We hope this newsletter will be a support to you as we read, research, and learn together at Lawrence Park C.I. Library Learning Commons.
