Our goal is to support the success of our students, to promote a life-long enjoyment of reading, and to provide knowledge building experiences with 24/7 access to information in a welcoming environment that is conducive to learning.

We  strive to achieve this goal through attention to Equity, Well Being and Achievement.

The TDSB Character Trait for February is Fairness. What does fairness look like/sound like/ feel like?

Freedom to Read Week provides an opportunity for Canadians to focus on issues of intellectual freedom as they affect your community, your province, our country, and countries around the world. Whether you are a librarian, bookseller, educator, student, or member of the community, there are lots of ways you can help mark this annual event.

How You Can Observe Freedom to Read Week

We encourage you to use these ideas to Get Involved during Freedom to Read Week and all year round. We sincerely hope your efforts have an impact in your library, classroom and your community.

Identity-affirming school mental health approaches and supports are responsive to individual student needs and affirm intersecting and developing identities. This approach contributes to and benefits from the wider efforts in school boards and schools to address oppression and marginalization and to work toward reconciliation, equity and justice, especially for those historically and presently oppressed. Moving from current practice to an embedded and integrated identity-affirming school mental health approach takes time, reflection, and planful action.

February is Chinese Heritage Month at the TDSB

2023 is the Year of the Rabbit: Kind, Generous, and Harmonious. Please visit our Chinese Heritage Month resource page for links to resources.

Who's Telling My story

During African Heritage Month use this diversity in media lesson plan to teach Grade 9-12 students about the history and implications of blackface and other examples of majority-group actors playing minority-group characters.

We hope this newsletter will be a support to you as we read, research, and learn together at Lawrence Park C.I. Library Learning Commons.
