Picasso Faces
(Art to Remember)
Hello Friends!
Last session we learned about Butterfly SHAPE and symmetry (same shape on both sides).
Today we are going to learn about shapes on our FACES!
Are our faces Symmetrical? Well, they don't have to be for this art session but we do want FACES.
We will learn about a very famous artist... Pablo Picasso!
Today we will create a FACE.
Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists of all time! Why is he so famous? Because he knows how to make people smile with his silly faces and wacky art.
Here are some of his silly drawings of his own face... this is called a self portrait.

Supplies we need today to make Picasso Faces:
Black Paper
Oil Pastels
Art to Remember labels
Remember!!! Oil pastels are so fun because you can color over them. You can layer the pastels over and over. So, if you make a mistake you can just go over it and blend with your fingers. You can try on scratch paper if you want or the back. They are like special paint crayons.
Step One: THE EYES
Think first about if you want eyes at top, middle, or bottom.
If you want more hair, crown, or hat place the eyes middle or below middle.
If you want more space for a necklace, mouth, or cheeks place the eyes higher middle.
Or, you can put the eyes wherever you want like Picasso (symmetrical or all over)
Now with a grey, white, peach, or light blue pastel, draw the SHAPE of the eyes. Any shapes will do OVAL, CIRCLE, TRIANGLE, SQUARE. You can use wavy lines too.
Step Two: NOSE and MOUTH
Here are 2 ways to add a nose/mouth with your white, grey, peach, or light blue pastel.
One way : Draw any nose and mouth shapes you want. Be silly, try something different or make it small or big.
Nose: Any shape, a Line, Circle, Triangle or a Flower.
Mouth: Small Lips, Teeth, Smile, Bird beak or Bubble Lips
Another way: Draw a wavy line down the middle from top to bottom between the eyes. This is how Picasso and other artists have added noses and mouths.
Step 3: Add lots of DETAILS using SHAPE and COLOR. Have fun and be daring to do something silly and layers of different bright colors.
Here are ideas that you can choose yes or no:
Color in the eyes with many colors white, then black eye balls, colored eye lids, eye lashes.
Add hair that has lots of color, any kind of hair.
Curly, castle lines, spiky hair, smooth, even a spider web pattern!
Add checks. Rosy, square, or no checks.
Add ears if you want.
Add a neck with a necklace.
