(Art To Remember - Back Top Left)
Claude Monet (born 1840) was an artist known for his impressionism paintings. Impressionism is when a painting isn't realistic but instead captures a feeling about what is being painted.
Monet looked for ways to make his art different. The art in museums were of realistic "photo like" paintings that were very sharp, clear and precise. He, along with other new artists, wanted to show paintings with visible brushstrokes, dots, smears and even blobs! They painted images of ordinary people doing ordinary things blurry. This kind of artwork had never been done before. Soon, Impressionism became the new popular art. It created a new way of seeing the world. In blurry paintings sometimes we all see different things.
Which looks like a photo graph (realism) and which is blurry (like Impressionism)?
Here are a few examples of Claude Monet's work. He loved using nature in much of his art. Look at the colors!!! They are bold and bright!!
Project Description - Art To Remember Project - NO PENCILS - FILL IN ALL WHITE
Each student will use oil pastels (just like all the famous artists) to draw a beautiful mixed colored sunset, water, or bridge just like Monet and Impressionists.
The trick is to choose something simple and add lots of colors. You may use your paper horizontally or vertically. Try to cover as much of your paper as you can with color. You can even use your finger to blend colors together!
Step 1 - Take a light colored oil pastel like yellow or light blue and sketch a drawing with SHAPES and LINES. See examples below.
Step 2 - Fill in the paper with the oil pastel or shade it lightly. Make sure to add all kinds of colors and shades. Remember, you can blend these using your fingers too.
Do NOT use pencil on this project because it will show (you can use a grey or yellow oil pastel to sketch though). Make sure you write your name with black marker in the lower right corner of your picture. Have fun!
