For this session we are using shapes to create parts to an animal or creature with an envelope form. This helps students explore the 2nd element of design, shape and form, in a fun new way.
This is also a literacy art in that we are adding opinion sentences for the students to create a vision (with their animal) and then add to the communication by sharing an opinion sentence (which builds character). Their opinions inspire feelings in their art communicated to viewers. In this way, art lets us inspire learning while students share with us the communications they apply.
Step 1 - Each student will receive an envelope and papers of various colors.
Step 2 - Students will cut solid color papers for shapes and use marker lines and dots for details on their animals.
Step 3 - Once the animal is finished, finish the opinion sentence about the animal and glue on the back.
Step 1: Cut out shapes that can make eyes, nose, mouth, or other parts of a face.
Step 2: Lay out your shapes onto the envelope. If you like what you see, glue the shapes down!
Step 3: Use a marker to add details.
Step 4: Complete the sentence about your animal. It can be silly or serious! When finished, glue it onto the back of your animal.
