Pinch Pots

Today we will make a pinch pot with a lid. We are going to use model magic to make shapes with our hands and create a design on a small pot.

Supplies -

  • 1 package of white model magic per student
  • markers

Parent Note - Student name should be written with a sharpie on the bottom of pot and lid when finished.

Step 1: Open your package of model magic. Split it in half.

Step 2: Take one half and color it. Fold your model magic like a taco. This will blend in your color. Continue to color and fold until you have the shade you like.

Step 3: Then roll the model magic into a ball (or sphere).

Step 4: Stick your thumb into the center of your ball. This will make your pot!

Step 5: Pinch the sides of your pot to form the walls. Your pot should be no bigger than the palm of your hand!

Step 6: Now let's make a lid! Take the 2nd half of model magic. Break it into a big piece and a small piece.

Step 7: Color the big piece a different color than your pot. This is your lid! roll it into a sphere.

Step 8: Take this ball and squish it flat under your hand.

Step 9: Make sure your lid is flat and is about the same size as your pot.

Step 10: Color your small piece a different color. This is for details. Roll it into a sphere.

Step 11: Take your remaining ball and use it to make shapes for decorating! You can make balls (spheres), cubes, "snakes", tiny dots, or triangles! Place your decorations on your lid and pot. DO NOT PLACE YOUR LID ONTO YOUR POT! IT WILL STICK! IT MUST DRY FIRST!

All done! That is one groovy pot!
