Let's look at some ART!! Why might contrast be used??

Today we are painting on a black canvas! We will use contrast to create a dramatic image!

Materials:

Black paper squares (4")
Black canvas
Paint:black, white, and primary colors
Paper plates
White colored pencils

Step 1 - Sketch your idea with a white pencil on the black paper. Here are 3 ideas.

Step 2 - Mix Colors on The Plate

Try your paint techniques first on the paper and then on the canvas. Some fun tips:

(1) Mix a minuscule amount of color with a large amount of white for tint!

(2) If creating grey use very little black paint and a lot of white.

Step 3 - Take your ideas to your canvas!

Here are some more ideas, to get the first 2 effects, you would have to layer the paint and dry and then go back to it. For example:

(1) Do the background shades first (ie paint the blue/white or purple/white first) then let dry about 10 minutes.

(2) Then add the white/yellow on top. You might not have time in class to complete this technique but you can play with the idea!
