In this session we will explore model magic! We are going to make pinch pots with coil and seashells.
Step 1:
Open your model magic. Split it so that you have one big piece and one little piece.
Step 2:
Color your big piece with a marker. Mix in the color by kneading and stretching. When finished, roll your piece into a ball and stick your thumb into the middle. This is the start of your pinch pot!
Step 3:
Begin to pinch all around your pot until you have a "cup" like shape. Make sure the bottom and sides aren't too thin!
Step 4:
Now take your little piece and color it a different color than your pot.
Step 5:
Roll your little piece into a long snake. This is called a coil. Try to make the coil have the same thickness through out.
Step 6:
Add your coil to the top of your pot by winding it around and around. The coil and pot will stick to each other without needing to press hard (like magic!).
Step 7: Once your coil is finished, you will be given two seashells to decorate your pot! The shells can be side by side, upside down, or any way you want!
Step 8: Gently press the shell into your pinch pot.
Now your pot is finished!!
Supplies -
- One package of model magic per student
- 2 shells per student
- Washable markers
Parent Note - Please be sure to place the pinch pot on the paper with the students label on it so we know who it belongs to.
