Brothers George II (Jr) and Isaac Dysinger married sisters Anna Mary Miller and Christina Miller respectively. The Miller sisters' brother Jacob Miller married Augusta Kleinhans after his first wife died. Anna's birthplace Harrisburg, PA is near Perry Co., PA where Nicolaus (George Jr's grandfather) resided before moving to Fayette, NY in 1813. George Sr. was born near Harrisburg, PA, and eventually moved to Royalton in 1830.
Homestead
7800 Akron Rd., built 1800
This was George Dysinger II's farmhouse built in 1800 on Akron Rd. On the 1875 Royalton Map, it was labeled C Dysinger, not G Dysinger. However, only two (2) other C. Dysingers lived in the area and they didn't live here in this house. So this was instead G. Dysinger's farm. George II's obituary, which took considerable effort to find, doesn't mention the location of his farm. In the 1875 US Census, he lived alone with his nine (9) children after his wife Anna (Miller) died. On the 1860 Royalton map this property was clearly labeled G. Dysinger. Many pre-WWI fathers named their sons after themselves but usually didn't bother to use numbers or Sr/Jr after their names. They likely used nicknames for the children as they were growing up.

✞Lockport Daily Journal. LOCKPORT, N. Y. Monday Evening, July 21, 1884. - DIED. In the town of Royalton, Niagara county, Monday, July 7, 1884, George Dysinger, aged 62 years, 1 months and 22 days. The subject of this notice was born in Seneca county, N. Y, When about nine years of age his parents moved to Niagara county, locating in the town of Royalton, now known as Dysinger's Corners. There he grew up to manhood, in which years he also grew in moral virtues, which became the forces that moulded his life and directed it in the path which ensures prosperity and happiness. On October 17, 1843, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Mary Miller, daughter of John Miller, deceased, of the town of Royalton. This union proved to be a happy one. In a year or two after their marriage they removed to the place where he departed this life. Here they employed their united efforts in the acquisition of earthly possessions to make them comfortable happy in their earthly relatives. In doing this the higher duties of life were not neglected. Christ was confessed as their Savior to whom service was given. In the mean time a large family grew up unto them. They all received the most careful parental training. For this there was ample reward in seeing all the children actuated by those virtues that make life noble and happy. The union formed in marriage remained unbroken nearly thirty years when the wife and mother departed this life, preceding the husband a little more than nine years. A little more than a year ago a beloved son and brother was laid away to rest, and now the father sleeps at their side. Mr. Dysinger possessed many sterling virtues. He was upright and honest, obliging and kind to any who needed aid and sympathy. A father, friend and neighbor has gone. His counsel and friendship will never again be enjoyed on earth. Peace be to his ashes. M. O.
note- This obituary ends with the initials M.O., possibly indicating Melanchton Ort, the 14-year-old youngest son of George, may have written this rather long obit for his father. All the facts about George's birth, marriage, wife, and son's death are correct, supporting the assumption that the obit was written by someone close to the family. We'll never know if young Melanchton wrote this by himself, but the sentiment and effort are notable. There was a Lutheran minister in Lockport by the name of Melanchton Ort, but George was Baptist, and the minister had likely moved away by the time George died.
✞Lockport Daily Journal. LOCKPORT, N. Y. Monday Evening, July 7, 1884. GEORGE DISINGER of Dysinger's Corners, in the town of Royalton, died this morning at 3 o'clock, aged 63 years. He was born in Seneca county, this State, July 16, 1821. He had lived in this county for many years, and was respected and esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves a wife [sic] and family. The funeral will take place at the late home of the deceased at 2 P. M. on Wednesday next, and at 3 o'clock from the Baptist church at Royalton.

8239 Bunker Hill Road, Dysinger Corner, Royalton, built 1842
William H. Dysinger owned his grandfather George's house right before or just after his grandmother Elizabeth died in 1873. There was an old log cabin next door that supposedly wasn't torn down until 1930. Around the turn of the 20th century, William and his family moved first to Lockport before their daughter married in 1898, and then to Redlands, California. After William, George's grandson, Samuel Disinger was the next Dysinger relative to own the hotel.
The hotel may have helped finance or influence certain endeavors of the Disinger family. Some of George's sons, particularly George II, had impressive houses and large farms. William Dysinger moved his family to Lockport and then to California after he owned the hotel. Samuel Disinger purchased the house in 1888 for his newlywed son, Albert. Henry Dysinger acquired the hotel after Samuel and owned 2 other farms. W. Elwin Dysinger had the hotel after Henry and owned more than 100 acres of farmland. After renting and operating the hotel for about 30 years, Melanchton Dysinger's widow, Cora (Mills), purchased it (see below). George's grandson, Dewey Dysinger (see below) moved to Saranac Lake, NY, and built a rooming and boarding cottage. George II's house/farm was also eventually owned by his nephew, Samuel Dysinger, who had a reported 600 acres of farmland and was a major wheat farmer.

Wilda
✞Wilda Leone Dysinger Piantoni, 92, passed away in her sleep on September 25, 2020 at Park Vista Skilled Nursing Home in Fullerton. She was born Wilda Leone Dysinger at the home of her parents, 1015 E. Wilshire Blvd in Fullerton, California on October 26, 1927. As a child she lived in La Habra and Fullerton. Her father Glen Holmes Dysinger, was a teacher, then principal, then superintendent of the Centralia School District in Buena Park, California. Her mother, Verlie Maude Haskin Dysinger, worked in a cafeteria so her husband could get his teaching credential from Santa Barbara Teacher’s College, which was to become UCSB. Wilda was sent to live with an aunt and uncle and her cousins to save on living expenses for a short time. As a girl, Wilda was shy and a bookworm. She was tall at 5’6” and her mother was a petite 5’2”. She always felt gangly and awkward next to her mother. She had three good friends: Mary Lou, Ruth, and Barbara and they formed a tightly interwoven group. After Wilda graduated from Fullerton Union High School, she attended Fullerton Junior College (now Fullerton College). She met fellow student Leo Piantoni at the Fullerton Methodist Church in the Youth Group. Leo had just come back from World War II and was going to school on the GI bill. He was a year behind her in school even though he was 4 years older. But it was love. Wilda maintained that he was the love of her life and would always say “Look how cute your dad is” whenever she saw a picture of him. They got married in the Methodist Church in Fullerton on September 4, 1948. They then moved to Santa Barbara to get their teaching degrees from what was to become The University of California at Santa Barbara, Wilda’s in Elementary Education, and Leo’s in Industrial Education.
Leo got a job teaching at Brea Olinda High School and the young couple bought a house on Locust Avenue in Brea. When living there, no one would suspect that Wilda was shy when young because she was so optimistic, friendly, outgoing, helpful, and involved in EVERYTHING. She had a good sense of humor (she loved to laugh) and went out of her way to make others feel comfortable since she knew how it felt to be left out. When asked her resolution for the New Year for the newspaper, she showed her positive attitude by saying “I resolve to enjoy what ever the New Year brings.”
Wilda and her best friend Francis Reese participated in Brea Women’s Club, PTA, and Brea Congregational Church. Wilda was a great sewer and in her spare time sewed Halloween Costumes, street clothes, play clothes, and Fashion show creations. She was still a reader while raising 3 daughters, Beth (January 13, 1953), Ruth (September 21, 1954), and Mary (December 28, 1957). They outgrew the house on Locust and moved to Larchwood. Wilda taught a group of girls on the block including her own daughters, how to sew. She was interested in everything. She explored astrology, gourmet cooking, handwriting analysis, psychology, self-help, and many many more subjects. Wilda worked at various school libraries and was a Demo for Costco. She and Leo started traveling when he retired and she loved it! They went on over 100 cruises and even renewed their vows for their 50th anniversary on the original Pacific Princess, the Love Boat. One of her favorite places was Ephesus, Turkey because of the beauty of the architecture.
Wilda was thrilled when presented with a granddaughter by Beth and her husband Darrell Deeter on September 16, 1987. She even loved Stephanie Irene Deeter enough to convince Leo to take the whole family including Ruth and Mary on 8 cruises! Everyone in the family got the cruising bug so they went on 6 more family cruises before poor health prevented further travel.
Wilda and Leo moved to M219, a two-bedroom apartment at Morningside of Fullerton in late 2001 just after 9/11. When Leo passed away on April 14, 2010, Wilda moved to M123, a one bedroom at Mountainside where she was active in the movie committee, chorus, hall representative, and of course the library. She moved to Park Vista Skilled Nursing in 2014 where she was very happy and cheerful. She loved the people and staff especially since many of them had come from Morningside. She was known at Park Vista for her hats, her jewelry, and for yelling in a loud voice “YIPPEE-KI-YAY" when going down the hall to the dining room. She was so grateful for any little service anyone did for her. Wilda was a friend to everyone she met and left a little bit of happiness with each one. She began feeling unwell and passed away peacefully 4 days later in her sleep on September 25, 2020. Posted by Beth Deeter on November 13, 2020

✞ LOCKPORT JOURNAL-MONDAY EVENING, JANUARY 25, 1926.- D. A. DYSINGER, FORMER NIAGARA COUNTY MAN, DEAD AT SARANAC LAKE - Word has been received here of the recent death at Saranac Lake, of Dewey A. Dysinger, a one-time resident of Lockport and a brother of Mrs. Samuel Gilbert of Newfane. Mr. Dysinger was born in the nearby town of Royalton, October 13, 1868, and was the son of George and Anna M. Dysinger. He received his education in the old Lockport Union school. Twenty years ago he took up his residence at Saranac Lake, where he was an active member of the Odd Fellows' lodge. He was a building contractor by trade. For the past two years he had suffered from heart disease and it was to this malady that he finally succumbed. Besides his wife, Mr. Dysinger is survived by five children, Mrs. Emily (sic) Wall of Grand Arlen (sic), Mrs. George H. McComb of Buffalo, Marguerite, Elliott and Stanford at home; six sisters, Mrs. David L. Miller, Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Henford Lerorhe (sic) of Charlotte, Mich., Mrs. Homer Sprague of Holley, Mrs. Samuel Gilbert of Newfane, and the Misses Sarah and Marguerite Dysinger of Albion. Mich., and two brothers, Warren Dysinger of Auburn, and George Dysinger of Ionea, Mich.
✞ LOCKPORT DAILY JOURNAL Wednesday April 18, 1906 - Mrs. Harriet B. Dysinger, The remains of the late Mrs. Harriet B. Dysinger arrived this morning at 10:20 from Saranac Lake and taken to the home of her brother, G. O. Brown, No. 40 Vine street. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Brock. The bearers were C. Burdick, C. H. Burdick, Joshua Burdick and F. B. Warwick. Interment was in Cold Springs cemetery.
*** Lockport Daily Journal, 1 July 1887 - W. Elwin Disinger and his cousin Dewey Dysinger received preliminary certificates for passing the prestigious NY State Regents exams in 1887. Both W. Elwin and Dewey had attended the Lockport Union (High) School in the city when it was unusual for rural district school children to go past the eighth grade. At the time this was likely close to a college degree. In 1908 W. Elwin ran for the First Niagara (County) District School Commissioner. His brother C. Franklin also attended Lockport Union School and taught school for the First Niagara District. So the Disingers valued education when it wasn't widely accepted particularly in rural areas.

8239 Bunker Hill Road, built 1842
After William H Dysinger, and Henry and Elizabeth (Duprey) Dysinger had owned the hotel, in the 1910 US Census for Royalton it was being rented by 40 y.o. Melanchton Dysinger, his wife Cora (Mills), and sons Floyd and Morton, George Disinger's grandson and great-grandsons.
After Melanchton's untimely 1918 death, in the 1930 US Census for Royalton 55 y.o. widow Cora (Mills) Dysinger with her 34 y.o. son Floyd Dysinger, his wife Viola, daughter Mary, and 25-year-old son Morton were still renting the stone house. However, years later a 1942 newspaper article (see picture/article below) stated that Cora Dysinger owned the stone house 100 years after George Disinger built it. In the recently released 1950 US Census for Royalton (district 32-114) Cora (Mills) Dysinger, Morton Sr., his wife Iva (Smalling), and his children Morton Jr., George, and Onnalee were still living in the stone house on Bunker Hill Rd. Also, in the 1950 US Census Morton Dysinger was mixing paint for a paper company, and 19 y.o. Morton Jr. was a gas station attendant.
After Cora died in 1957, the stone house was owned by Morton Sr. When he died in 1979, his widow Iva (Smalling) lived there until she died in 2005. Frank Disinger visited and talked with Iva in 1994 about the Disinger post office. After 180 years George Dysinger's original stone house is now owned by a different family and was recently sold for $262,000.

According to the1938 Town of Lockport map Floyd & Viola Dysinger's farm extended on the south side of Dysinger Rd from just west of Beattie Rd to the east near Crosby Rd for about a mile. It was about 1/4 mile wide making it roughly more than 100 acres. Floyd's obit stated he lived on Beattie Ave Ext without a specific address. This house appears to be the only old farmhouse on Floyd's former farm on Beattie Rd. The eastern end of his farm bordered the western end of Mildred (Dysinger) & Alvin Sand's former farm on Crosby Rd. who was Floyd's second cousin. Floyd also owned other tracts of farmland in the Town of Lockport. note- see the July 2024 entry on the News page for more on Floyd's farm.
