John Deacon Disinger moved to Royalton with his parents in 1830 at 21, married his first wife in 1831, and bought his farm in 1835, according to his son Watson Disinger's newspaper interview (see below).➖ They called John Disinger Deacon. However, there are no records to indicate he was a deacon of a church. ➖ John's great-great-grandson Edward T. Oatman, and his wife had a chimpanzee they raised as a child in California. ➖ John's son, Samuel Disinger, with likely a portion of his father's farm, accumulated a total of 650 acres and became one of Niagara County's largest grain producers.➖ John's great-granddaughter, Edith (Oatman) Lehning, graduated from the University of Buffalo with a pharmacy degree at 38 in 1933 and was seemingly never employed as a pharmacist, although she did work as a clerk in a drugstore.

There wasn't much published about John Deacon Disinger, his obit was a scant 3 sentences. However, an excerpt from a 1902 article about two of his four sons is below. At the time, Watson was 56 and died just 3 years later in 1905. His brother Samuel was 66 and died in 1910. The 100-acre farm on Bulmore Rd. (see below) where John Deacon lived would have been around a half-mile wide and likely bound on the north side by Johnny Cake Rd./Lincoln Ave. Ext. There are still a lot of trees on the property, and it has since been subdivided into smaller parcels. Because it was their father's farm, Watson and Samuel may have inherited separate parts of the original farm. Samuel also had a house on Akron Rd. less than a mile to the west in the Town of Lockport (see Maps) and reportedly owned 650 acres of farmland.
*** The Lockport Journal Saturday, September 27, 1902 - Our Travelers - Coming to the old Dysinger farm of 100 acres in the town of Royalton, one of the old Niagara County landmarks, Wednesday, smoke was found pouring from the chimney, which indicated warmth and comfort in the old homestead. Watson L. Dysinger was found toasting his shins, and being in a reminiscent mood gave these facts: The farm was deeded by the Holland Land company to John Dysinger in 1835. He had five children born on this farm, three of whom are now living, namely Samuel Dysinger, Mrs. George Barth of Angola, N. Y., and Watson L. Dysinger, the latter now living at the homestead. It was a timber tract which the elder Dysinger cleared. He lived to be 68 years old and died in 1878.
S.A. Dysinger (Samuel) lives on the farm adjoining. He has a blacksmith shop; the anvil of which was ringing as the Journal man entered. "What are you up to today?" asked the scribe. Mr. Dysinger replied, "Oh, the boys thought I couldn't fix this piece of iron as it should be and they wanted to take it to a professional blacksmith, but I thought I would show them I had not forgotten how to forge and weld hot iron. While my muscles are not so supple as they once were I have not lost the knack." And he performed the task with a master hand.

Picture of John Deacon Disinger's home at 7555 Bulmore Rd. in Royalton taken by great-great-grandson Frank Disinger in 1973. John's family was not the only family to live here. John's son Samuel and his young family also lived here until he moved them to Akron Rd. in the Town of Lockport sometime after 1860. John's father George Disinger's farm/stone house was about 2 miles to the east, and Samuel's future house was only a mile west. John's third wife Elizabeth (Norcross) and his son Watson lived here together until they died in 1900 and 1905 respectively. In 1908, Samuel owned it and on a 1938 Royalton map, it was labeled Edwin Dysinger, except there was no Edwin Dysinger in the area then. However, Samuel's son W. Elwin Disinger was often misidentified as Edwin (see 1938 Royalton map in Maps and Locations).

✞Aaron W. Disinger Dec 3, 1901 - son of the late Deacon John Disinger, was laid to rest Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, in the Chestnut Ridge cemetery. The funeral services were held amidst a large gathering of relatives and neighbors, at the late home of the deceased, near Dysingers' Corners. Mr. Disinger was born in Niagara County, January 6, 1838. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons and one daughter, Delbert A., Glen W. and Dollie E. He also left two brothers, Samual A. and Watson L. Dysinger, and one sister, Mrs. Cordelia Bartle [sic], of Angola, N.Y.
The quiet and unassuming manner of deceased and his beautiful Christian character endeared him to all who knew him. He was a kind and loving husband and father. He will be missed by a large circle of friends. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Watkins assisted by the Rev. C. C. Rozell. His nephews and cousins acted as bearers. C. Frank, Harvey M., William L. and Chauncey A. Disinger laid him at rest, there to await the Resurrection morn.

Bulmore Rd.
Aaron Disinger's children Delbert, Dollie, and Glenn's obituaries mention living on Bulmore Rd. On the 1908 Royalton Town Map from Historic Map Works the house at 7555 Bulmore Rd. is shown on the left side of the picture above owned by S. (Samuel) Dysinger. Next door to the east was a property owned by Mrs. A. W. Dysinger, Aaron W. Disinger's widow Ellen (Warwick). The current house on this property is too new (Zillow had it constructed in 1990) and too far from the road to have been Aaron's old house. But, a Google Maps satellite view (see picture above) shows an outline of the foundation of a demolished house on the property closer to the road and roughly the same L shape as the original house on the 1908 map.
Presumably, this is where Aaron and Ellen, and their children Delbert, Dollie, and Glenn at some point all lived. In the 1910 US Census, Delbert, Dollie, and Glenn lived together on Johnny Cake Rd. In the 1920 US Census Glenn was with his wife Lulu and daughter Jean on Bulmore Rd and Delbert and Dollie were also living together on Bulmore Rd.

***THE SUNDAY PRESS Binghampton, NY, July 11, 1965 - California Officials Have A Pet Peeve ---- Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Oatman, physical therapists in El Cajon, bought a chimpanzee they plan to raise as a child. "We're keeping it in the house, in its own nursery, and dressing it in baby clothes," says Mr. Oatman. She adds, however, that they will be keeping it in a cage for a while, until it begins to respond to training. "We're even going to feed it at the table," she said. "It will be a challenge seeing what we can do to fit it into the family as a child. We look on it as an experiment." The Oatmans have three grown children.
note- Edward had likely divorced Doris and remarried by this time, since Doris' obit only mentions one son, not three children, and Doris was a teacher, not a physical therapist, as the piece seems to indicate his wife was.
