5696 Gasport Rd, built 1880
According to the 1875 Royalton map Henry and his wife Elizabeth (Duprey) had 2 houses on Gasport Rd. about 1 mile north of his uncle George Disinger's stone house on Bunker Hill Rd.
8239 Bunker Hill Road, built 1842
Henry Dysinger must have had a thing for real estate because in addition to the 2 farms he already had he also acquired his Uncle George's original stone house sometime before he died (the previous owner was William H Dysinger) and was boarding tenants according to numerous newspaper accounts. Henry listed his occupation as a farmer not a landlord in the 1880 US Census. In the 1900 US Census, his widow Elizabeth (Duprey) still owned the property and listed her occupation as landlord. According to Elizabeth's obit, she never left the house she moved into after marrying which would have been the first house shown above. So apparently her daughter Edna (Dysinger) Ranney, and her grandson Howard Ranney lived in the stone house without Elizabeth. Edna listed her occupation as a housekeeper. In 1898, W. Elwin Disinger advertised the farm for sale so he may have been assisting Elizabeth in selling the stone house/farm. In the 1910 US Census Elizabeth and her daughter and grandson were listed as living on Ernest Rd. although Elizabeth's obit states she never left her original home. Barring another explanation, it's likely the section of Gasport Rd. that Elizabeth's house was on was once called Ernest Rd. since it intersected Ernest Rd. to the north. Elizabeth must have succeeded in selling the stone house after 1900 because George Disinger's grandson Melanchton and his wife Cora (Mills) Dysinger were renting it in 1910. In 1938 W. Elwin Dysinger's name was listed as owning the property on a map so he may have purchased it himself and was renting it. In 1942 Melanchton's widow Cora (Mills) purchased it but the newspaper doesn't say who she bought it from.
The hotel may have helped finance or influence certain endeavors of the Disinger family. Some of George's sons had impressive houses and large farms, particularly George II. William Dysinger moved his whole family to Lockport and then to Redlands, CA after he owned the hotel. Henry Dysinger acquired the hotel after William and already owned 2 other farms. W. Elwin Dysinger had the hotel after Henry and owned more than 100 acres of farmland. After renting and operating the hotel for about 30 years, Melanchton Ort Dysinger's widow Cora (Mills) purchased it. George's grandson Dewey Dysinger moved to Saranac Lake, NY, and built a similar large rooming and boarding cottage. George II's house/farm was eventually owned by his nephew Samuel Dysinger who had a reported 800 acres of farmland and was a major wheat farmer.

✞THE NIAGARA DEMOCRAT, LOCKPORT, N. Y. FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 1911 - Sketch of Late Mrs. Dysinger - Dysinger, April, 11. Mrs. Elizabeth Dysinger for nearly 60 years a resident of Dysinger, was suddenly stricken with paralysis the morning of March 12, 1911. She had a severe cold previous to her stroke which had greatly weakened her so that she gradually sank away, being unable to converse with her friends or take nourishment. Death came to her the evening of March 24, at 8:30 o'clock. She was surrounded by loving friends and children who had done all that loving hearts and willing hands could do for her comfort. She passed away as one quietly going to sleep. Mrs. Dysinger was born August 9, 1828, at Griswold Street, town of Royalton. She was the daughter of William, and Mary De Puy. April 16, 1851, she was married to Henry Dysinger and moved to the home where she died. She was the mother of five children, two having died in their infancy. A son, S. D. Dysinger of St. Paul [MN], and a daughter in the home, also a brother, Dr. De Puy of Michigan, survive her besides several grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dysinger early united with the Christian Church at West Shelby. She united with the Baptist Church at Dysinger in 1872. She was ever a consistent member. Her husband, the late Henry Dysinger died in 1890, she surviving him over 20 years, Her funeral was held from her home March 27. Rev. Jullus Berger, pastor of the Royalton Baptist Church, preached the sermon. Text Psalm 00:9. Mrs. Mina Dysinger and Mrs. Matie Long sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," and "The Christians Good Night." Interment was in Chestnut Ridge cemetery. Thus one by one the Lord doth call His own. We know not how soon our call will come.

►Mini-bio: click to expand/collapse
August Stern's family immigrated to the US sometime between 1859 and 1860 from Prussia/Germany. His father's name was Augustus and his mother's name was Rachel. He had an older sister named Rachel who was also born in Germany. His 5 younger siblings including his brother Albert were born in New York presumably Royalton. They were in the 1870 US Census for Royalton. They lived north of March Rd on Royalton Center/Wolcottsville Rd and were on the 1875 Town of Royalton Map. The home they were renting at the time was likely demolished.
By the 1880 US Census of Royalton, NY August, age 22, was employed as a servant for the Holton Sprout family near William Disinger, Andrew Truax, Benjamin Disinger, and Sarah (Dysinger) Zachariah all Disinger relatives on Akron and Bunker Hill Roads. His future wife Mary Dysinger lived about a mile north and likely went to the same church. No maps are available between 1875 and 1908 for the Royalton area so there is no evidence of where August and Mary raised their 11 children except for censuses that have them listed in Royalton. On the 1908 Town of Royalton Map A. Sterns is shown on the north side of Chesnut Ridge Rd a 1/4 mile east of Royalton Center Rd. The farm he purchased in the 1916 newspaper piece below was immediately next door to the west.
***LOCKPORT UNION SUN & JOURNAL SATURDAY EVENING FEB 5, 1916 - Augustus Stern has purchased the Mary L. Butler property containing 25 acres located at this place and formerly known as the [Dr] Peter P. Murphy homestead.
note- After August's first wife Mary died in 1902 and his brother Albert Stern died in 1909 August married his widowed sister-in-law Anna (Huth) Stern in 1911. Anna was August's third wife. His second wife likely died before 1911 but there's no record of her.

Raymond and Nora with their first son, lived on Lewiston (Chesnut Ridge) Rd in 1910. By 1920 they were on Royalton (Center) Rd near Mountain Rd with 7 children. By 1930 they had purchased a house on Slayton Settlement Rd near Quaker/Mill Rd north of Gasport, NY. Raymond was working at Niagara Sprayer in Middleport. After Raymond retired and died Nora likely remained in the house until she died in 1983. A few years later their daughter Annabelle (Stern) Mathewson moved back from Michigan after her husband died and she had retired. She apparently moved into the house. Annabelle likely stayed in the house until she died in 2008. The property is still owned by one of Raymond's descendants after nearly 100 years.

✞David, Judy and Joanne, I just learned of Aunt Bea's passing and was very saddened by the news. I have great memories of Aunt Bea who always was so great about allowing the gang to come into her home. We play a lot of Yahtzee with her and Uncle Bill at the kitchen counter. I often think back on the days of running between the houses on Slayton-Settlement Road with all of the cousins, friends and neighbors on Sunday nights for the huge gatherings at Grandma Stern's house. May Aunt Bea rest in peace and may you all be comforted by the thought that she is in the arms of a loving God. - Jeff Landers May 2, 2018

Helen (Nevin) Sheldon recorded a TV commercial for the Howell Motors Ford dealership in Wrights Corner, Lockport, NY. This picture is a frame from the video where she acted as a random local buyer praising Howell Motors and Ford cars. However, the dealership owner Francis James Landers (see above) was Helen's second cousin once removed. Plus Helen was the organist for Francis' wedding. Their common ancestor was Mary (Dysinger) Stern (see above). So the ad was pretty deceptive. Unfortunately, the video has since been removed.

Helen (Nevin) Sheldon did a TV commercial for the Howell Motors Ford dealership in Wrights Corner, Lockport, NY. So the ad was somewhat deceptive. Unfortunately, the video has since been lost.
