Jacob inherited his farm from his father Johannes/John, who owned 500 acres. ➖ Jacob's farm was less than a mile north of his grandfather, Nicolaus's, former farm, and close to his brothers John C., Samuel, and Daniel Disinger's farms, also inherited from their father's estate. ➖ Jacob's son James began life as a farmer like his father and grandfather, but at 50, he moved to nearby Syracuse, NY, and worked as a machinist. ➖ James' daughter, Lillie, was a teacher and at 42 married a Syracuse pottery business magnate, Conrad Breitschwerth. ➖ Another daughter, Alphasine, was a nurse in NY City before she moved back home. ➖ His son, Ernest, was a skilled toolmaker in Cleveland, OH. ➖ His third son, Foster, went to art school in NY City and became a renowned commercial photographer and Indian expert in Binghamton, NY. ➖ Fourth son, Paul, was a sales engineer. ➖ His youngest son, Claude, was a tool & die maker.➖ His youngest child, Lois, married a young man from England who was a teacher. They lived in Canada and moved from one teaching job to another in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Northwest Ontario, Canada. James seemed to lose track of Lois and her family, not hearing from them for years. ➖ James' great-grandson, Roger Disinger, attended UCLA and USC and was a computer systems analyst for Memorex and Bechtel in the 1950s and 1960s. ➖ Another great-grandson, Willard R Disinger, MD, was a doctor in Cleveland, OH. ➖ James' grandson Eldred Disinger, his wife, Jean, and son, Tom, were buried together with full military honors at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the former Sampson Naval Base on Seneca Lake. ➖ Eldred's brother, Paul M. Disinger Jr., was interviewed by a local newspaper about his training at the Sampson Naval Training Center and his family's history. He states, among other items, that his great-great-grandfather, Nicolaus's, grave at Fayette in Seneca County, bears a (inaccurate) gravestone placed there by the Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution of Seneca Falls, clearing up an old mystery of who did it.

✞Seneca County Courier, Seneca Falls, N. Y., March 9, 1882 - Cornelius Bennett and Mattoon Pierson are spending the week in Waterloo as jurymen. James Dysinger, also called, but excused on account of the illness of his father, Jacob Dysinger, who died Tuesday afternoon of inflammation of the lungs. He was on the street last Wednesday.
Homestead
3831 Seybolt Rd, Fayette/Seneca Falls, NY, built 1890
This is presumably the property where Jacob Disinger lived with his wife Mary (Gambee) and children. The 1852 Seneca County map has this property labeled Jacob Disinger. Zillow has this house listed as built in 1890 which means this is not Jacob's original house. His son James likely inherited the farm after his father died in 1882 and possibly constructed a new home here when he was about 45 before he moved to Syracuse.

✞Phyllis (Disinger) Cady, born 1922 in Syracuse, NY, blasted a perfect drive off the tee in Orlando, Florida, on September 23, 2007, following by four years her husband Levi's hole-in-one from the same tee. In the presence of her children, her ball zoomed out of sight, on into the mists of time, and it is the belief of her family and friends that her trajectory has guided her ball, just like our dad's, peacefully and directly into the cup on the 19th hole at Arizona Country Club in Phoenix, Arizona. Her friend, Arnie, will undoubtedly salute her. Mom will respond with her own salute. Phyllis is survived by her children, Kristine Cady of Heaven, Dan Cady of Flagstaff, AZ, Pete Cady of Phoenix, AZ, Sarah Flanagan of Orlando, FL, Betsy Martin of Richmond, VT, and Michele Kogler of Costa Mesa, CA. Delayed by Covid, a family prepares to bury a father, mother and son with full military honors -

By Mike Waters mwaters@syracuse.com Syracuse, N.Y.Jean Disinger’s family mourned when she died last year; just one day before her 98th birthday.
Their heartache was compounded when the coronvarius prevented them from holding a ceremony to bury her ashes along with those of her late husband, Bob, who had died in 2002. The family wanted to bury them together in the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery on Onondaga Hill.
The two had served in the Navy. Their marriage was the result of a fateful meeting at Sampson Naval Base on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake back in 1943.
The cemetery in Romulus recently received the designation as New York’s first state veterans cemetery “It does mean a lot,’’ Tom’s brother, Dave, said.
Syracuse basketball fans may recognize Tom Disinger’s name from a recent syracuse.com story about his friendship with fellow Orange fan and cancer patient Mike Dow. Disinger had befriended Dow after seeing a video in which the Syracuse coaches, including Jim Boeheim, surprised Dow.
Soon after, Disinger developed brain cancer. He passed away on July 10.
But before he died, Tom had talked with his brother about the family’s plans for their parents’ ashes.
“This was when Tom’s health was really getting worse,’’ Dave said. “He told me, ‘I know I’m not going to be able to be there in person.’’’
Tom, who served in the Air Force and spent most of his time in the service at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, was buried with full military honors in Saratoga in late July. But he had asked his wife, Barbara, to separate some of his ashes so they could be buried with his parents.
“It’s going to be a very special day for the family,’’ Dave said of Friday’s ceremony, noting that his sister, Sue Vanderveer, had also been supportive of the idea.
Special not only because Jean and Bob will be reunited or that Tom will be with him again, too, or because of the military honor involved.
The day will be special because the Sampson Naval Base, which is now operated by the Air Force, is where this family started.
Bob, who grew up in Syracuse and attended Nottingham High School, had enlisted in the Navy at the height of World War II. Like thousands of other enlisted men, he was sent to Sampson, where he became a chaplain’s assistant.
“He said the worst part was having to break the news of a death to a loved one,’’ Dave said of his father’s role.
Jean grew up in Hoboken, New Jersey. One day, she and a friend went to the recruiting station to enlist in the Army. The recruiter wasn’t in at the time and they were told to wait. As they waited, a pair of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) walked by.
Jean and her friend liked the spiffy white uniforms and followed them down the hall, where they wound up enlisting in the Navy. Jean also was stationed at Sampson in the role of a medical secretary.
Over the course of five weeks, Jean and Bob would talk on the telephone. The medical secretary relaying messages to the base’s chaplain through his assistant.
They finally met face-to-face in the late summer of 1943 and fell in love. They got married on Dec. 30, 1943, just days before Bob was set to ship out to San Diego. They got married in New York City at the famed Little Church Around the Corner on 29th Street in Midtown Manhattan.
After the war, Bob and Jean returned to the Syracuse area, raising their family in Baldwinsville.
Earlier this year, the family established a scholarship in their name to be awarded annually to a student at Baldwinsville’s Baker High School.
A year and a half ago, Dave and Tom had visited the museum at Sampson to see the place where their parents had met.
“Tom hadn’t gotten sick yet,’’ Dave said. “It was a special day.’’
On Friday, the family will make one more trip down the former Naval base on the shores of Seneca Lake to bury Jean and Bob, and their son Tom, too.
“It was hard not being able to have a ceremony for them because of Covid,’’ Dave said. “But now we get the chance to do this. We’ll be able to honor each of them.’’

*** SENECA COUNTY NEWS. WATERLOO. N. Y., JUNE 15, 1944 - Paul M. Disinger Jr., Ancestors Came Here in 1761, Trains at Sampson - Within a few miles of the home of his ancestors, one of whom fought in the Revolutionary War, Paul M. Disinger Jr., of 210 Chaffee Avenue, Syracuse, trained at the Sampson Naval Training Center. Seaman Disinger, who is attached to the audio-visual aids department at Sampson, is a great-great-grandson of Nicholas Disinger, who came to America from the Palastine [sic] district of Germany in 1761, sailing in the "Simon Squirrel" [sic] the first ship to leave European shores in five years, because of the war then raging between England and France.
He settled in Burks [sic] County, Pa., and in 1776, with other members of his family, enlisted in the Colonial Army, and served until the end of the Revolution. His grave at Fayette in Seneca County in the Reformed Church cemetery bears a marker placed there by Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution of Seneca Falls.
Nicholas Disinger and his family moved into the forest wilderness of what is now Seneca County in 1804 and purchased a large tract of land from the Indians. When he died, he left a farm to each of his five sons. One of these sons, John Disinger, great-great-grandfather of Paul, Jr., arrived in Seneca County, it is said, with an axe and two shillings in his pockets. Proud of the humble beginning of the family in the new country, he directed that a log cabin be carved on his monument which stands in the nearby Canoga cemetery, where members of five other generations of Disingers also are buried.
Red Jacket, famous Indian, was born not far from where the cemetery now is and his monument stands at the entrance. Seaman Disinger's grandfather was baptized 100 years ago in the nearby German Evangelical Reformed Church by Rev. Diedrich, who had fought in the Duke of Wilmington's Army at Waterloo and was pastor of the church from 1821 to 1882, 61 years.
Not far from the old Disinger farm is the birthplace of Stephen Harkness, co-founder with John D. Rockefeller of the Standard Oil Company. Descendants of the same Disinger family are Frank, Birney, and Burt Disinger, all of whom, with their families, live near Canoga, and George and Emma Disinger of Seneca Falls.
Seaman Disinger, who is married and the father of three children, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Disinger of 427 Maple Street, Syracuse. Before enlisting in the Navy, he was director of store display at the Addis Company in Syracuse.
note- There's a lot to unpack in this piece. Paul Jr was the great-great-great-grandson of Henrich (Nicolaus' father). It was Henrich, not Nicolaus, who came from the Palatinate Region, Germany, in 1748 on the ship Patience, not in 1761 on the Snow Squirrel, a common misunderstanding according to Frank Disinger. We also now know the local Seneca Falls DAR chapter incorrectly replaced Nicolaus Disinger's original damaged gravestone. There were no Disinger daughters in this branch who belonged to the local DAR chapter. Otherwise, the mistake they made may have been avoided. Nicolaus did not arrive in Seneca County until 1813, he didn't buy his land from the Indians, and he didn't have 5 sons. One son, John, stayed in Seneca County, but David, George, and Thomas moved on to Niagara County.
