Please watch Ken Burns' "The American Revolution" for free on pbs.org or your local PBS station. In particular, watch Episode 3 "The Times That Try Men’s Souls (July 1776 – January 1777)" that covers the Battle of Long Island. In August of 1776, Nicolaus and John Deissinger served in the "Heidelberg Brigade," a Continental Army militia unit from Berks County, PA. Their unit fought in the battle in Captain John Lesher's company of Colonel Patton’s Regiment. Also watch Episode 5 "The Soul of All America (December 1777 – May 1780)" covering the Sullivan Expedition, which likely influenced Nicolaus and his sons' move to Seneca County, NY.

We are sorry, but due to the time and effort required, no further updates or materials will be posted to this site. We recommend using FamilySearch.org and FindAGrave instead. In the future, this site may be disabled and removed. After roughly 10 years, it has become clear that only a tiny number of people have read any of the material here, despite the large number who have visited Facebook or expressed interest in having the Disinger Family tree on the internet. The lack of interest and support severely undermines the commitment to continue this site. Incidentally, when using AI (ChatGPT, etc) to search for Disinger-related material, some of the information it retrieves and reports is from this website.
2025 July
Just a week or two ahead of the 2025 125th Annual Dysinger Family Reunion, it became evident that Nicolaus' brother, Johan George (John) Deissinger, who was mistaken for dead in the Revolutionary War, had instead survived the war on a farm in York County, Pennsylvania. York County is south of Harrisburg, PA, and between Cumberland County and Lancaster County, about 35-45 miles southwest of Berks County, PA, where Barthel and Heinrich's farm was and where Johan Wilhelm, Nicolaus, and Johan George (John) were born in 1750, 1755, and 1757, respectively. Nicolaus moved to Cumberland County around 1785-86 before moving to Seneca County, NY. This may be around the time Johan George (John) moved to York County. His first child, John Deisinger, was born in 1790 in Pennsylvania. His second child, Catherine Deisinger, was born in 1793 in York County, as were the rest of his 8 children. There is as yet no absolute proof that he was Barthel's grandson and Nicolaus' brother. However, based on names, dates, and locations, the presumption that he is the missing Johan George appears likely to be correct. Johan Wilhelm left a will in 1822 written in German that mentions his brothers by name, John and Nicolaus, whose children were to inherit his estate after Wilhelm's wife, Elizabeth, passed away.
In June 2017, Eric Dysinger's website listed Johan Georg (John) Deissinger as Barthel's grandson, living in York, PA, with 7 children, although only a few of his hundreds of descendants are listed. Eric may have obtained his information from FamilySearch.org, which had Johann George (John) Deissinger listed since about 2008. Unfortunately, Eric died in 2022, and his father, Eldon, died in 2024.
Over the last week and a half, much of Johan George's (John) family has been added to this website, mainly from the FamilySearch and FindAGrave sites and obituaries. So far, over 1,000 descendants have been added. There's more to come since only 3 of his 8 children's descendants have been processed, with 5 more to go. Most of them stayed in or around York County. Frank Disinger visited the Cumberland County clerk's office in September 2000, looking for Deissinger records, mainly for Nicolaus, although surely he would have been happy to find any Deissingers. Unfortunately, he was about 30 miles north of where he would have encountered records for Johan George (John) Deissinger and his descendants.

She graduated from Williamston High School with the class of 1953, carrying with her the values of hard work and community that were instilled in her from a young age.
The year 1954 marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership when Gae married the love of her life, Kennard Elmo Dysinger, on October 2. Together, they built a life in Perry, Michigan, filled with love, laughter, and the joyous hustle and bustle of raising a family. Their union was a testament to commitment, celebrating more than 57 years together before Kennard's passing in January of 2012. Gae's legacy is carried forward by her children: Kennard John (Brenda Rendon) Dysinger of Sheridan, Wyoming, David Benjamin (Jeanie Marie) Dysinger of Perry, Michigan, and DeAnn (Russell) Sambrook of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. She was the proud grandmother to Anna Marie (Jacob) Champion, Sarah Ruth (John) Moffitt, Dustin Cody Sambrook, and Chelsea Ann (Derrick Winder) Sambrook. Eldon Dysinger August 9 - Our sincere condolences to the family of Gae Ann on her recent passing. May her memory live forever. I shall miss our weekly phone conversations with Gae. She would keep me updated on the recent Perry happenings and she would know how everyone in Perry was related to one another. One time she decided she wanted to shoot my .44 Magum revolver, Kennard and I kept telling her to keep it at arms length due to the sharp muzzle rise. She insisted on holding it close to her face so she could squint down the sights. Sure enough the muzzle rose and whacked her in the forehead and knocked her silly. She never asked me to shoot it again after that. Those were the days.

✞Jeffery Scott Mallaber, aka “Jeffie Baby”, left this world on November 2, 2021. His battle with glioblastoma has finally ended, and he is free of pain and confusion as he happily takes his place in the beautiful realm of Heaven. Jeff was born on November 10th, 1958, in Washington, D.C., to Clayton Ward Mallaber and Marilyn Behe Mallaber. Jeff leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Allison Mallaber, of Waterford, Vermont. They met long ago at their place of work, Wonder Bread & Hostess Cake of Ocala, Florida. Jeff was smitten right from the first introduction to Allison, and Allison was head-over-heels for Jeffie. Jeff also leaves behind his three daughters, Elizabeth Bonasera (and husband Nate), Olivia Drechsel, son-in-law Christian Drechsel, all of Littleton, Colorado, and Alicia Mallaber of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Nine grandchildren are now left without a Papa. From oldest to youngest, they are Jacob (JJ), Zoe, Samantha, Lana, Jadalynn, Julius, Jace, Isabelle, and Josephine (Josie). Jeff loved being a Papa, buying gifts, giving horsie-rides, reading books, and appropriately spoiling the grandchildren as only a Papa can do. He even introduced them to his invented gyrating, 2-fingered personality, “Captain Voot”!
Many relatives are mourning the loss of Jeff. His sister Julie Judy and her husband Ernie, Danielle and Chris Waymire, Krystal and Rod Cumbus, George and Diana Oram, James Oram, Dori and Bill Nanry, all of Florida, and Bev Doherty of Bedford, NH, many, many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his son-in-law Jacob Mercer of California, his mother and father, Marilyn and Clayton Mallaber, and mother-in-law Elaine Oram Cornett, of Florida, and brother-in-law Dan Doherty of New Hampshire.
Although Jeff graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Criminal Justice, his real passion was for medicine. He attended the University of Colorado Health Sciences College, and earned a degree as a Physician Assistant. Jeff's love of medicine and helping people was where he shined. He spent almost 13 years working for Urology Associates in Denver, Colorado, and almost two years with The Rocky Mountain Men's Health Clinic before being diagnosed with glioblastoma.
Hiking in the Rocky Mountains with his family was an activity Jeff enjoyed. He spent time with his many dogs over the years, and even some cats. Jeff learned to love his wife's goats, sheep, chickens, and especially horses. His golf score never improved to competition level, but he did have a mean swing, and often played in the Denver area. He loved working out at the gym, swimming in oceans, lakes, and pools, and was known as “Runs With A Beer” after a close encounter with a shooter in a downtown Denver bar. Whether fishing in the ocean or a lake, Jeffie Baby could brag about his catches of enormous, toothy, man-eating fish with the best-of-them.
Jeff's generosity was a beautiful thing! He donated money to many charitable causes, and also took a personal interest in helping people in dire financial straits to pay their rent, buy groceries, and obtain much needed vehicles. Jeff's generosity was legendary. Jeff Mallaber is already greatly missed. If you have any stories about Jeff you'd like to share, please send them to Jeff Mallaber c/o 131 Lee Farm Road, St. Johnsbury, Vermont 05819. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to GoFundMe, “Jeff Mallaber's battle with brain cancer” or to “Spay Today” in Lakewood, Colorado. ►Obituary: click to expand/collapse
✞Wilda Leone Dysinger Piantoni, 92, passed away in her sleep on September 25, 2020 at Park Vista Skilled Nursing Home in Fullerton. She was born Wilda Leone Dysinger at the home of her parents, 1015 E. Wilshire Blvd in Fullerton, California on October 26, 1927. As a child she lived in La Habra and Fullerton. Her father Glen Holmes Dysinger, was a teacher, then principal, then superintendent of the Centralia School District in Buena Park, California. Her mother, Verlie Maude Haskin Dysinger, worked in a cafeteria so her husband could get his teaching credential from Santa Barbara Teacher’s College, which was to become UCSB. Wilda was sent to live with an aunt and uncle and her cousins to save on living expenses for a short time. As a girl, Wilda was shy and a bookworm. She was tall at 5’6” and her mother was a petite 5’2”. She always felt gangly and awkward next to her mother. She had three good friends: Mary Lou, Ruth, and Barbara and they formed a tightly interwoven group. After Wilda graduated from Fullerton Union High School, she attended Fullerton Junior College (now Fullerton College). She met fellow student Leo Piantoni at the Fullerton Methodist Church in the Youth Group. Leo had just come back from World War II and was going to school on the GI bill. He was a year behind her in school even though he was 4 years older. But it was love. Wilda maintained that he was the love of her life and would always say “Look how cute your dad is” whenever she saw a picture of him. They got married in the Methodist Church in Fullerton on September 4, 1948. They then moved to Santa Barbara to get their teaching degrees from what was to become The University of California at Santa Barbara, Wilda’s in Elementary Education, and Leo’s in Industrial Education.
Leo got a job teaching at Brea Olinda High School and the young couple bought a house on Locust Avenue in Brea. When living there, no one would suspect that Wilda was shy when young because she was so optimistic, friendly, outgoing, helpful, and involved in EVERYTHING. She had a good sense of humor (she loved to laugh) and went out of her way to make others feel comfortable since she knew how it felt to be left out. When asked her resolution for the New Year for the newspaper, she showed her positive attitude by saying “I resolve to enjoy what ever the New Year brings.”
Wilda and her best friend Francis Reese participated in Brea Women’s Club, PTA, and Brea Congregational Church. Wilda was a great sewer and in her spare time sewed Halloween Costumes, street clothes, play clothes, and Fashion show creations. She was still a reader while raising 3 daughters, Beth (January 13, 1953), Ruth (September 21, 1954), and Mary (December 28, 1957). They outgrew the house on Locust and moved to Larchwood. Wilda taught a group of girls on the block including her own daughters, how to sew. She was interested in everything. She explored astrology, gourmet cooking, handwriting analysis, psychology, self-help, and many many more subjects. Wilda worked at various school libraries and was a Demo for Costco. She and Leo started traveling when he retired and she loved it! They went on over 100 cruises and even renewed their vows for their 50th anniversary on the original Pacific Princess, the Love Boat. One of her favorite places was Ephesus, Turkey because of the beauty of the architecture.
Wilda was thrilled when presented with a granddaughter by Beth and her husband Darrell Deeter on September 16, 1987. She even loved Stephanie Irene Deeter enough to convince Leo to take the whole family including Ruth and Mary on 8 cruises! Everyone in the family got the cruising bug so they went on 6 more family cruises before poor health prevented further travel.
Wilda and Leo moved to M219, a two-bedroom apartment at Morningside of Fullerton in late 2001 just after 9/11. When Leo passed away on April 14, 2010, Wilda moved to M123, a one bedroom at Mountainside where she was active in the movie committee, chorus, hall representative, and of course the library. She moved to Park Vista Skilled Nursing in 2014 where she was very happy and cheerful. She loved the people and staff especially since many of them had come from Morningside. She was known at Park Vista for her hats, her jewelry, and for yelling in a loud voice “YIPPEE-KI-YAY" when going down the hall to the dining room. She was so grateful for any little service anyone did for her. Wilda was a friend to everyone she met and left a little bit of happiness with each one. She began feeling unwell and passed away peacefully 4 days later in her sleep on September 25, 2020. Posted by Beth Deeter on November 13, 2020

Some solid clues have been discovered about how Nicolaus Deissinger and his sons moved to Seneca County, NY, from Pennsylvania, and how some of his sons then relocated to Royalton, NY. In short, they likely followed Indian trails used during the American Revolution to fight the Iroquois Indians who sided with the British. Although there's no direct proof, it seems highly plausible they used Indian trails.. There's also a possible explanation for Thomas Deissinger moving to Ohio, and possibly a reason his descendants moved to Michigan, which many did. Please look at the Maps and Locations, Sullivan Expedition, and Thomas Dessinger pages. On another note, about 100 new visitors have viewed the Disinger Family Facebook page over the last 8 weeks. Unfortunately, we don't know if they also visited this Disinger Family website since there are no comments or likes.
On the odd side, the Hause family website (two of David Dysinger's daughters married Hause men) mentions that the Nicolaus Deissinger family is related to American theologian Holmes Dysinger. According to FamilySearch, Holmes was born in 1853 in Pennsylvania to Joseph Dysinger, who was born in 1824 to Jacob Dysinger, who was born in 1783 to Johannes George Dysinger. According to FamilySearch and this website, Johannes George was not a son of Nicolaus Deissinger, even though his birth and death dates and locations on FamilySearch oddly match those of Nicolaus' actual son, Johannes (John) Deissinger. John had a son named Jacob Disinger who lived and died in Seneca County, NY, not Pennsylvania. Johannes (John) had moved to Seneca County, NY, in 1804 before he was married, so none of his children were born in Pennsylvania. Someone on FamilySearch created another Johannes George Dysinger and attached him to a different Jacob Dysinger, whose grandson was Holmes Dysinger. Holmes is not related to this family's Nicolaus Deissinger or Johannes (John) Deissinger of Seneca County, NY.
According to Holmes Dysinger's biography he was born in 1853 in Mifflin, PA, about 60 miles northwest of Tuplehocken, PA, where Barthel died in 1770. Barthel Deissinger had a grandson named Johan George Deissinger, Nicolaus' brother, who was born in 1757 in Tuplehocken with records of his christening and confirmation. Johan George had relocated to York County, PA where he died in 1803 about 50 miles south of Mifflin, PA. Johan George had a son named Jacob who was born in Dover, PA in 1798. Jacob did not have a son named Joseph nor a grandson named Holmes.

The David Dysinger branch with the Elizabeth (Dysinger) Ernest, Henry Dysinger branches, and the lost David Disinger (Jr) branch were refreshed and reworked as other branches have been over the last year.
David Dysinger was the first Deissinger settler in Niagara County, establishing a farm on Keck Road near Lincoln Ave/Johnny Cake Rd in 1828. David's children, including Elizabeth (Dysinger) Ernest and Henry Disinger, and many of their offspring, were born in Niagara County. Their branches now total over 1,100 after the update. That's an increase of about 650 more Disinger cousins. Many third and later generations did not stay in Niagara County, particularly after WWII, but several families are still in the area. Some of the Elizabeth (Dysinger) Ernest, and Henry Dysinger branches attended the annual Disinger Reunions until about the 1950s/60s, but haven't been at the more recent reunions.
Surprisingly, the David Disinger (Jr) branch was just uncovered. David Jr, born in 1813 in PA, had moved to northwestern Ohio by 1840, where most of his descendants continued to live. He must not have stayed in touch with his father in Royalton because no one seemed to know about his branch until he was found on FamilySearch and FindAGrave. With his descendants numbering about 470, his father's branch (David Dysinger) is now about 1,100, nearly the largest family branch. This puts the total number of Disinger cousins at over 4,300. Once the Thomas Deissinger branch is eventually refreshed, the total will likely hit 5,000 to 10,000.
Besides typical farming and factory work, the Henry/Elizabeth Dysinger/Ernest branches include notable professions/activities not seen in the same numbers in other branches. Some of them are: War of 1812/Civil War soldiers, a NYC Broadway dancer, a corporate sales manager, doctors, lawyers, a millionaire food production business owner, a barber and auctioneer, a grocery store owner, a mechanical engineer and musician, college professors, photographers, a geologist, nurses, accountants, a company president, a nuclear technician, a computer systems analyst, a car dealer, construction engineer/contractors, hardware/repair shop owners, funeral home directors/owners, teachers, a dentist, and a newspaper publisher.

Frank Disinger, the late Disinger family historian whose research provided the foundation for this website, would not have realistically found the information about the David Dysinger branch that has just been uncovered. Some of it is too recent for him to have seen before he passed.'
Frank's genealogy resources included the Lockport Library, where he could access Lockport Union-Sun and Journal newspapers, dating back to the late 1800s. Scanning hundreds of newspaper pages for small articles and obits was extremely difficult and time-consuming. Missing just one obit could lead to not finding potentially dozens of descendants. The library likely had other regional newspapers, but only the most recent issues.
It's clear that Frank had access to US Federal and New York census records, but only up to 1930 (before 2012), due to the US Federal Census 72-year rule. Original non-indexed handwritten census records are hard to read and tedious to search manually. The Lockport Library had the US Census from 1820 - 1930 on microfilm for Niagara County only, meaning Frank had to travel to other regional libraries to see census data from Seneca County, NY, for example. The library also has Lockport City High School yearbooks, but most farm children did not attend school past grade 8, so no school records are available for turn-of-the-century rural Disinger children.
Frank's other resources were church and cemetery records, which were again hand-written, sometimes in German, which Frank did not read or speak fluently. Local Disinger cousins (and others he was in contact with by mail) directly provided Frank with information about their families/branches. Today, with personal computers and the internet, more information is available online and searchable, although not always 100% accurate or complete.

In honor of Eldon Everett Dysinger who passed away in November 2024, his late son Eric Everett Dysinger, his late brother Duane David Dysinger, his late sister-in-law Gae Ann Dysinger, and his late son-in-law Bruce Mills who all passed recently, the John Urwin Dysinger III branch of the Thomas Deissinger branch has been reworked and refreshed using the updated format along with recent obits. In his 2003 Reunion paper, Frank Disinger acknowledged the information he received from Clint Dysinger and later from Eldon Dysinger, Clint's nephew, about the Thomas Deissinger branch that resided mainly in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. In July 2013 Eldon and his son Eric attended the Disinger reunion in Lockport, NY to present Eric's research from his first and second trips to Steinwenden, Germany which can still be viewed at Eric Dysinger's website. Eldon was regularly in contact with several members of the NY Disinger branch providing information about his branch and other branches in the Midwest. The Disinger Family will deeply miss Eldon and his son Eric.
Additionally, there are new materials on FamilySearch for Barthel, Heinrich, and Nicolaus Deissinger confirming most of the records here on this website. The materials include translated handwritten German Protestant church records from Steinwenden of marriages, births, and baptisms for Barthel Deissinger's family. Also included are birth and baptism records from the Host Reformed Church in Tulpehocken, PA that Frank Disinger referred to in the 1998 Reunion paper. While checking the new materials the FamilySearch profiles for Barthel, Heinrich, and Nicolaus were corrected and links were made to connect them with the rest of the Disinger family tree. This is important for people looking to connect themselves or others to the Disinger family. Some volunteer genealogy researchers on FamilySearch can read old handwritten foreign documents, a skill few have. These researchers can and have connected families to their ancestors that the average person would likely never uncover. FamilySearch asks for volunteers to translate and transcribe documents and verify places. See this page for more information.

In June, while refreshing Barthel/Henrich/Nicolaus Deissinger's branch, it became difficult to work with due to the expanded size. So Nicolaus' and Jacob Disinger's branches were moved to separate pages. Over two hundred (200) "lost" Disingers were found and added to the family tree. The Nicolaus and Jacob Disinger families lived mainly in Seneca County, NY. Although a few families have left more recently, some families have stayed there. Over the years, they were somehow overlooked, even though several attended early Disinger reunions, such as Lyman Disinger, who wrote a 1901 paper for the first reunion. Eventually, they stopped attending the annual reunions and regrettably lost touch with the rest of the family. Thanks to websites like FamilySearch, Fulton History's newspapers, and FindAGrave, many of them have been identified. There appear to be more Disingers living in the Syracuse, NY area who came from Seneca County than in the Lockport/Royalton/Niagara County area; however, there are plenty of cousins in Niagara County. There are also Disingers spread out across the US in several different states.
Many unnamed (great) grandchildren were mentioned in the recently found obituaries, about 20 in Nicolaus' branch alone, and there are likely many more. All told, the Disingers could be one of the largest families in upstate NY. While difficult to verify, it can be gauged by the size of the family reunion. The Lilly Reunion in West Virginia was named the largest family reunion in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2009. They recorded more than 2,500 living Lilly cousins. The Disinger family may not ever achieve that number. But the real issue is if the reunion isn't growing, it's shrinking.
2024 Aug
There are currently about 300 obituaries in total. Almost all of the obituaries are now embedded in the branch pages along with the family members' names, pictures, and newspaper articles when available. The Obituaries page and this News page also have the same embedded obits. This makes it easier to find and read obits, and update and add them as needed. The pre-2005 obituaries page does not have embedded obits so you have to switch to the person's branch page.
If Google Sites made it possible to flick or swipe through pages, keeping separate obit pages might make sense, but changing or picking the order of the obits would be difficult to handle. It hardly matters, since Google likely won't add that feature anyway.
A remarkable picture was added to Lydia (Disinger) Behe's branch page. It was posted on FindAGrave for Edward Behe (Jr)'s memorial. Other than its old appearance, there's nothing else to prove its authenticity, and it comes from a single unknown source. However, one of the men in the picture seems to match a man in the group picture from the 1903 Dysinger Reunion. If there were more old photos of the Behes besides Edward (Sr) and Lydia Behe we could try to match them to the others in the picture.
Also, the history of Jacob Behe's farm on Telegraph Rd which is now the Niagara Orleans Country Club has been clarified by a newspaper story of a house fire on the property when Jacob's son Elmer Behe lived there in 1931 (see the Homestead entry for Jacob Behe). The farm was originally owned by Jacob's wife's family the Hurds. One more thing, the family of Cordelia (Disinger) Barth in the John Deacon Disinger branch who lived in Angola, NY has been refreshed and expanded.
2024 July
One of Frank Disinger's pet peeves was the (re)naming of Dysinger Road with a Y instead of an I, as many of you may remember from family reunions where he complained about it regularly. His father, Howard Disinger, also strongly disliked it. Frank argued that it should have been named Disinger Rd because his grandfather, C. Franklin Disinger, had a 100+ acre farm on the road for most of his life. Frank stated in a 2009 local newspaper interview, "He was the only Disinger that ever lived on the road, but they changed the spelling of the name after". However, Frank didn't mention that his great-grandfather, Samuel Disinger's 100+ acre Akron Rd farm's southern border was also on Dysinger Road. He didn't mention his second cousin once removed, Floyd Dysinger, who had a 100+ acre farm on Dysinger Rd, or 2 other cousins who had farms on or near Dysinger Rd., Mildred (Dysinger) Sand and Florence (Dysinger) Bishop. Frank also didn't mention that the road was labeled Dysinger Rd on the 1938 Town of Lockport map. In addition, his grandfather's and great-grandfather's names were also spelled Dysinger on the map. The Google map on the Maps and Locations page was updated to show their farms and many others.
Before the decision was made to (re)name the road, Winthrop Disinger, who last owned his father C Franklin's farm, died in 1947, and James Disinger, who last owned his father Samuel's farm, passed in 1952. So the last Disinger/Dysinger on the road was Floyd's widow, Viola (Mann) Dysinger. She lived on the farm on Beattie Rd until 1971, when she moved to 6026 Raymond Rd, which was also on a portion of the original farm near her daughter and son-in-law. This may be when she sold part of the farm to a local developer after Winthrop Disinger and James Disinger had passed away. The current Town of Lockport complex was built in 1973 on a corner of Floyd's former farm. The local developer who bought that part of Floyd's original farm sold it to the Town of Lockport and built a convenience store/gas station on the opposite southwestern side of Robinson/Dysinger Road. They possibly named the road Dysinger to honor widow Viola Dysinger's husband, Floyd, and encourage her to sell them a portion of the farm.

Robert C. Disinger's passing and obituary (see above) prompted a review of his branch (Barthel/Henrich/Nicolaus Deissinger) as recent obits often do. Along with Robert's obit, more pieces of his branch were uncovered including two 1904 short obituaries for Daniel Disinger, and obits for John Disinger's wife Nettie (Eschenauer), James Disinger, Paul M. Disinger Sr, Paul M. Disinger Jr. and wife Doris, William Disinger and wife Mary, Peter Disinger's wife Mary (Zeluff), Calvin Disinger's wife Helen (Mercer), and Henry Franklin Disinger.
As unexpected as Daniel Disinger's obits were, a more surprising find was a longer newspaper article about Paul M. Disinger Jr, a young US Navy seaman in 1944. The article mentions his naval training, Disinger heritage in Seneca County, the Seneca Indian Red Jacket, Stephen Harkness of Fayette, co-founder with John D. Rockefeller of the Standard Oil Company, and Paul's family. The article also mentions that Nicolaus Disinger's damaged gravestone was replaced by the local DAR Seneca County chapter, solving a mystery Frank Disinger questioned.
Speaking of mysteries, John Disinger was mentioned in a few newspaper pieces as living in Seneca Falls, NY, around 1937, and was also reported to be a prison guard. While several John Disingers lived in Seneca County at different times, none were alive in 1937. He does not show up on either FamilySearch or Find A Grave. So either some mistakes were made, or John was a nickname. Samuel Disinger's son, George Disinger, lived in Seneca Falls with his nephew before he died in 1945.
Also, while on FamilySearch, a Dysinger family was found who lived in Lockport around the turn of the century. The father, Fred Dysinger, was a carpenter from Germany. He had a son named Frederick (Jr) who graduated from Lockport High School in 1931. He married Marion Waple from Lockport, and they had a son and 2 daughters. Their son Robert Dysinger died suddenly in 1972 after graduating from Lockport HS that year. Their daughters married, both initially lived in Rhode Island, and eventually moved to Hartford, CT, and Pittsford, NY. In 1997, Frederick (Jr) and his wife Marion died in a car crash in Florida while their grandson was driving (see below). Surprisingly, they were not related to this Disinger family.

✞DYSINGER. Marion and Fred Dysinger of Lockport, NY, passed away suddenly Sunday (Jan. 5, 1997). They are the parents of Kristen (Paul) Smith of West Hartford, and Ann (Charles) Szymanowicz of Pittsford, NY. A memorial service will be Saturday, (Feb. 1), 10 a.m., at St. Peter Claver Church, Pleasant St., West Hartford.
***PUBLISHED: January 7, 1997 at 5:00 a.m. | UPDATED: July 30, 2021 at 10:30 p.m. A 10-year-old St. Augustine boy injured in a weekend three-car crash became the fifth fatality from the accident Monday. Daniel Mounts died at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach from injuries suffered in the 6:40 p.m. Sunday accident on Interstate 95, just south of Ormond Beach. The crash was the first fatal accident of the year in Volusia County. Four other people, including his mother and 11-year-old brother, died in the crash. “This is one of the worst accidents I’ve ever handled,” Florida Highway Patrol Cpl. Ken Wiles said Monday. The boy’s mother, Wendy Shaw, 47, St. Augustine, was driving her 1996 Honda north on I-95 when she suddenly crossed the median into the highway’s southbound lanes, Wiles said. The Honda clipped a tractor-trailer driven by 39-year-old Gary Richardson of Polk City and then slammed into a 1991 Chevy Blazer driven by Jeffrey Szymanowicz, 23, of Pittsford, N.Y. Shaw’s son, Nathaniel Shaw, also died in the accident. Szymanowicz’s grandparents – Marion and Frederick Dysinger, ages 74 and 94 [sic 84], who were passengers in his vehicle, died in the crash, Wiles said. Szymanowicz suffered minor injuries and Richardson, who was driving the tractor-trailer, was not harmed.

During refreshing and updating the large Elizabeth (Disinger) Ernest branch page it was determined that Elizabeth's great-grandaughter Georgia Peck's husband Henry Dana Soule was a direct descendant of George Soule, a 1620 Mayflower passenger who signed the Mayflower Compact according to FamilySearch. Notice from FamilySearch: "This profile (George Soule and descendants) has been well researched - A considerable effort has been made to ensure that the basic vitals and relationships of this Mayflower passenger conform to 1) available records/primary source documents, 2) the Silver Books of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants [the series entitled “Mayflower Families for Five Generations”], and 3) the most up to date published research."
Georgia (Peck) and H. Dana Soule had two daughters, several grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren some of whom are with us today.

Reworked and refreshed the George Dysinger II branch page. Previously, George Disinger, John Deacon Disinger, Samuel Disinger, and Lydia (Disinger) Behe's branch pages were refreshed and reworked.
While searching for obits and other newspaper pieces, it became apparent that some obits from Royalton were not published in the Lockport, Batavia, or Medina newspapers, particularly around the turn of the 20th century. Some were only in the Middleport Herald, published for a few years. Copies of the Middleport Herald are kept locally at the Middleport Free Library in Middleport, NY. However, they are unavailable to view due to the fragile condition of the paper, and there are no microfilm copies. While it's impossible to determine exactly how many obits there could be, there are not likely to be many, and obits at the time tended to be curt and short. But it's distressing that they're inaccessible due to their historic nature for the Disinger family (and other families) since so many Disinger ancestors lived in Royalton near Middleport.

In the 2008 Reunion paper written by Jesse Lee (Dysinger) Meyers presented by Eldon Dysinger, at the end of her story, Jesse mentioned her father and mother made friends with Indians from Oklahoma while on a camping trip to northern Michigan. They were likely Osage Nation Indians since she was told they were rich from oil wells, the same Osage Nation in Martin Scorsese’s 2023 movie Killers of the Flower Moon which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.

2023 Dysinger Family Reunion Details:

Location: Krull Park – Shelter 13, 6108 E. Lake Road, Olcott, NY 14126
Time: 12p.m.-4p.m.
Homesteads identified
Coincidently, when Frank Disinger photographed John Deacon Disinger's house in 1973, John's son Aaron Disinger's farm was practically next door on Bulmore Rd. However, by then his house might have already been demolished. Several homesteads have been identified and located with the help of historic property maps from 1852, 1860, 1875, 1908, and 1938 as well as various years of the US Census up to 1950. (see below)
Perhaps a more common practice 150 years ago, the Dysingers, Behes, and Truaxes passed their houses and farms down from one generation to the next, keeping many homesteads in their families for decades. Edward Behe may have helped several Dysingers, Behes, and Truaxes build their houses, which are still standing today.
Nicolaus Deissinger's family
Frank Disinger located Nicolaus Deissinger's 1815-1841 property in his 2008 Cradle to Grave reunion paper using an 1875 Seneca County map. The 1852 Seneca County map clarifies the status and location of some of Nicholaus' children's properties. On Nicolaus' family page, there's also a recap of the US Census data indicating which Deissingers were living in Fayette, Seneca County, NY, and roughly where they lived by coordinating the data with the 1852 map and the help of some of their obituaries. More importantly, nearly his whole family moved there with him, and some of his descendants still live there.
Some of the homesteads identified:

In the 2009 What Our Reunion Minutes Indicate 1901-2005 reunion paper Frank Disinger highlights the lives of 5 notable Disinger family members he called the "Dei-lights". Those 5 people certainly deserved to be pointed out, but Frank left out many other Disingers who could have been included like himself. Some of them were even in his branch. He may have intended to extend the list before he passed away but didn't get around to it. So on the 2009 Addendum page, you can find lists of other family members that distinguished themselves in the last 250+ years in different categories.

The entire Disinger website has been refreshed including the George Disinger branch. While most existing content didn't change much, embedded Google street views and some maps have been replaced with static pictures. Even so, they've been linked to the same matching Google maps and street views so you can still access them on a separate page. Unfortunately, embedded maps/street views don't work that well on anything other than a desktop or laptop computer. Conversely, embedded YouTube videos work fairly well on most devices.
Besides changing embedded maps and street views, nearly every page has been reworked and reformatted to look better on tablets and phones. Pictures and text were enlarged so they're easier to read although you might want to turn your tablet or phone to landscape mode for enhanced viewing. Phones and small tablets in portrait mode will squeeze the family tree pages sideways specifically eliminating the indentation that indicates parent/child relations. Switching to landscape mode restores the formatting. Many pictures and newspaper articles will mostly fill the screen of your tablet or phone in portrait mode. If they look too large on your desktop or laptop screen resize your browser's window to the size you want.
Also, the obituaries have been reorganized and include newly found ones. All the old newspaper obits were scanned and converted to text to allow searching for names/text. The old newspaper obits either have or will be uploaded to Find A Grave when possible. Obits for spouses have been combined on one page because there are just too many obituaries (now over 225) to have a separate page for each person.

While working on the George Disinger branch, another connection to the Kleinhans family was uncovered. Some members of the two families had neighboring farms, attended the same church, and their children went to the same school. In the early years, they were all rural farmers in Royalton, and years later many moved to Lockport to work in a factory. They shared the same history, culture, geopolitical location, and economics during the same era. It might have been more surprising if they hadn't known each other.
2022 Aug
Working on updating George Disinger's branch of descendants who are located mainly in Niagara County. Nearly every Dysinger/Disinger cousin attending this year's reunion was one of George's 1,100+ descendants. Keep in mind updates come mainly from obituaries and occasionally from marriage announcements. Obituaries frequently don't name grandchildren and birth notices are not typically available online so infants and young children are often left out. If you want your children added to the family tree, message us on Facebook with your name and their name(s).
2022 July - Samuel Disinger's Obituary
Thanks to Mike Niethe of Glenwood Cemetery for finding and posting the obituary for Samuel Disinger on Find A Grave even though Samuel was not buried in Glenwood. Samuel was well-known in the area and often called "Uncle Sam" due to his appearance. Samuel was Nicolaus Deissinger's great-grandson and had twelve children with his wife Nancy. Although not mentioned in his obituary he served as Lockport Town supervisor for two years, highway commissioner for three years, and assessor for fifteen years while running a farm of about 650 acres.
2022 May - Lloyd and Lorraine (Hawley) Dysinger
A full-page newspaper piece in the Niagara Falls Gazette from 1966 was located on www.fultonhistory.com recently. It features Lorraine Dysinger making peach jam at her 8395 Bunker Hill Road home/farm located in Gasport. A copy of the piece is included on the page for the George/William/Ralph/Lloyd Dysinger branch. Their farm was just across the street from Lloyd's great-grandfather George Disinger's stone house built in 1842. (see Maps) Also, the Royalton Union (Disinger) Cemetery is just a quarter-mile down the road being essentially the center of Dysinger's Corner. Many current Niagara County Disinger cousins are related to George Disinger, his thirteen children, and some eleven hundred (1,100) additional descendants. Lloyd and Lorraine had three children, Judith (Dysinger) Librock who recently died, Lyndon Dysinger whose wife Mary Dysinger recently died, and Gordan Dysinger. Certain Disinger cousins may remember Judith, Lyndon, Gordan, and their horses from visiting their farm or attending a family reunion some years ago. Another article was also found in the Niagara Falls Gazette about Lloyd's family and farm. A copy of that article is with the other newspaper piece on the same pages mentioned above.
2022 Dysinger Family Reunion (We have a new location!)
Hello!! First, I hope this letter finds everyone doing well! Our location has changed, due to the fact that a Farmers Market now exists in the parking lot of the Pendleton Park, on Sundays. With this new location there are a few things to take note of:
*There is no electricity, if you are bringing a hot dish to pass please plan accordingly.
*There are bathrooms located right across from Shelter 13, this is a plus!
*For those with children, there is a playground right behind the bathrooms mentioned above, and there also is the splash pad which you will pass as you pull into the park.
Lastly, I do apologize that this invite is coming much later than usual. It’s been a very busy year so far for us, as I'm sure it is for everyone. With that said I will be stepping down from the post of Secretary, therefore we will be looking for someone to fill the position.
Any questions feel free to email - Luanna Diemert -Secretary LuSu1183@yahoo.com
Reunion details below, we look forward to seeing you!

2021 Disinger Family Reunion canceled.
With a heavy heart, we've decided, once again to NOT hold the reunion this year out of consideration for everyone's health and safety.. ONLY the officers will hold a virtual meeting so that we can keep our status as being the longest consecutive running reunion in the nation. (Dorothy Vigano verified as of last year we've moved into the 1st place for that honor!!) As the covid conditions continue to improve, we are hoping that next year (2022) we can all be back together again. We are saddened that we won't be seeing each of you again this year but we think it's for the best.
Secretary, Luanna Diemert will continue to pass along all information to you at a later time.
2020 Disinger Family Reunion canceled.
This would have been our 120th annual family reunion. With that said, we are still currently the 3rd longest running family reunion in the United States and we wish to keep our standing. So the 4 officers and the family historian will conduct a brief meeting, using an online platform at some point soon. This will keep our standing as the 3rd longest running reunion. Information about next years reunion will be sent out early next year.
Future of Google Sites and the Disinger Family Tree continued.
posted Feb 2020After considering several alternatives and trials, the only readily available website backup tool failed to make a proper working copy of the old Disinger Family website. Also, the Google conversion process failed as well because of the 1,000-page limit. Therefore the only reasonable option left was to copy and re-work the Disinger family tree into a new website.
So the process of copying was explored, a shell of the new website was built, and several means were worked out. As a result, the Disinger family tree is being copied to the new website and will be completed soon. Update- Complete now except for several new family tree charts for some branches.
The new Google Sites is somewhat cleaner and easier to work with but it has fewer options and more restrictions than the old Google Sites. As a result, the family tree had to be flattened, that is every family member no longer has his or her page. Family members are now included together on larger pages with up to 100 or more closely related family members. The result is that 3,000 pages have been reduced to 30, well within the 1,000-page limit. Fortunately, using several methods and conventions, large family pages have been formatted for acceptable readability. Using the Search bar option for the whole website and the search page option of your internet browser, you still should be able to find the family members you want. The Home page and other pages such as Obituaries, Reunions, Maps, Calendar, and Help look the same or better than the old ones.
Some of the more powerful feedback and print page features of the old Google Sites are gone. However, Google hasn't finalized the new Sites yet, and will almost certainly add new features in the future. So some things are better, and some things are worse or missing. As the French say "comme ci comme ça".
Future of Google Sites and the Disinger Family Tree
posted Sep 24, 2019, 12:40 AM [ updated Dec 23, 2019, 2:59 PM ]As anticipated and without much warning, various functions of the old Google Sites have been deprecated/disabled. ...
Google is encouraging conversion to the new version of Sites. Currently, the new version of Google Sites does not support more than five (5) sub-pages per page and limits websites to 1000 pages. Since each page/sub-page on this site represents a set of parents, and sub-pages are used to store each child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc; a limit of five (5) sub-pages would make it difficult to convert this site's family tree. While it could be converted with a lot of rearranging and restructuring, it would require many compromises and awkward workarounds.
As of now, just a few functions have been affected so the immediate impact is limited. All of the custom-written Google Apps Scripts developed to provide semi-automated feedback from/to website visitors have been disabled by Google. Since the beginning of this website in early 2013, Google has not directly contacted anyone connected to this site about any aspect of the Disinger Family's use of Google Sites; no information, warnings, suggestions, or recommendations. It's pretty clear that soon Google will completely remove access to this old version of Sites and thereby this family tree. Going forward some kind of new arrangement will have to be made to continue and preserve this website.
Update: The G(oogle) Suite Updates blog recently stated "The final date to transition from classic Sites to new Sites will be the end of 2021." Google also said "We continue to have dedicated engineers maintaining core functionality, but classic Sites was originally built many years ago and its infrastructure and integrations with other products and gadgets are quickly becoming outdated. As a result, we cannot guarantee all features will continue to work as they currently do." So they're not pulling the plug immediately, but they will remove/change various functions at their discretion. Who knows where that will leave this site?
Frank A. Disinger, In Memoriam
posted Jan 2, 2014, 11:17 AM by Disinger Family Site Master [ updated Jan 3, 2016, 12:34 AM ]Frank Allen Disinger died on 26 Dec 2013, just four months after the death of his wife, Marjorie, and seven months after the death of his sister, Rita (Disinger) Diemert. In addition to his numerous other activities, Frank was President and Historian of the Disinger Family Reunion for many years and researched much of the genealogical material contained in this website. He also wrote several Reunion Papers for the annual family reunion. Frank was involved in the family's activities for close to the last 90 years, and his guidance and support will be greatly missed by the entire Disinger Family.
