Besides the servicemen who were killed in action (see below), two sons-in-law, brothers Cloyd and Roy Beck, were murdered in Detroit over a dispute involving Prohibition-era alcohol dealings. ➖ Another son-in-law, Nicholas D. Falcone, immigrated from Italy and was the University of Michigan's band director for nearly a decade. He has a Wikipedia page about him.

No less than 19 men in William Dysinger's branch served in the US Military. Three were killed in action; two were brothers (see the Walter D. Dysinger family below). There may not be another branch in the Dysinger Family with more men willing to serve their country.

Facebook - Historical Society of Michigan Dec 12, 2024 - Our Michigan Centennial Farm owners inherited their family’s legacy through their continuously operating family farms. One such farm is the Horace Dysinger Farm in Clare, Michigan. Horace Dysinger purchased 40 acres of land and cleared it for a farm in 1909. He grew beans and corn. He traded an 80-pound bag of handpicked navy beans for a pig—at that time, the beans were worth more than the pig. He also raised dairy cows and produced and sold milk and cream. Walter Dysinger [brother] took over farming operations in 1939. Duane Dysinger [grandson] purchased the farm in 1963 and raised horses, a cow, and chickens. His son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Donna, are the current owners. Hay is the primary crop grown. Bryan removed half of the original farmhouse and rebuilt it in 1991. He also reinforced the root cellar and replaced the barn.
note- Horace's son, Clarence, may have lived on the farm until Duane bought it in 1963. Charles E Wallace (see below) died at Clarence's house in 1961.

She was the sixth child of 14 to be born to John and Alice Dunn on February 1, 1920, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The family moved from Canada to Onaway when she was four and a half years old. After attending 10th grade at Onaway High School, she married John Jesse King. They had seven children, Darlene, Arlette, Sharron, Judith, John "Jack", Carla, and Victor. She married Harold E. Cradit in 1959. This gave her step-daughter, Bonnie Jean who she raised from the age of eight years old. One of her proudest accomplishments was having all her children, including her step-daughter, graduate from Onaway High School. She was the first of her family who had all their children graduate. Since that accomplishment she has had all her grandchildren graduate and several of her great grandchildren have already reached this achievement. Education was important to her along with the privilege to vote. She earned that right when she turned 18 and voted in every Presidential Election. There are 117 immediate family members surviving; 88 descendents and 29 in-laws, which includes 15 sets of five generations.

✞RUMMER DIES, SEALS IDENTITY OF MURDERERS - Roy Beck Takes Secret of Rum Feud Killing to Grave; 'Vengeance' Fails. NINE SUSPECTS KEEP SAME STONY SILENCE Last Adventure of Two Slain Brothers on River May Not Be Solved. - Death yesterday cheated the law of further opportunity to learn the identity of three gunmen who shot and mortally wounded Cloyd and Roy Beck, wealthy rum-running brothers, last Wednesday night, unless police are able to shatter the stony silence of nine suspects arrested since the killing. Roy Beck, 33 years old, younger of the brothers, died yesterday morning in Delray industrial hospital from five bullets sent into his head, neck and chest by the assassins. Beck's brother Cloyd, 36 years old, died within a few minutes of the shooting, which occurred while the brothers were seated in their automobile on West Jefferson avenue, opposite the Detroit Edison company plant.
Guards Secret to Last-+ Maintaining to his last breath the taciturnity with which he met police questions, Beck died carrying his secret with him. Although detectives are convinced he knew the identity of the slayers, he persistently answered all questions by saying: "Never mind, I will take care of this myself when I get out of here. You will have no case against them then." The Beck brothers, police have said, were victims of a rival rum-running gang, of which they ran afoul in their activities "along the river." It has been learned by detectives of the police black hand, homicide and criminal investigations squads, on and the United States department of Justice agents, all of whom are co-operating in the investigation, that Roy Beck, alleged leader of a facation head by both brothers, sold out his rum-running "business" to to a he competitor several weeks ago. Roy Dillon, 27 years old, 4020 Lafayette boulevard, driver of a beer truck found near the scene and now under arrest in the case, told officers that it had been agreed that the Becks were not to continue operation in the "business." Violation of their pledge was believed to have provoked the killings.
Denies Bargain Violation- This theory, however, was dampened Friday when Joseph Galbo, 32 years old, 2014 Delaware avenue, admitted purchaser of the Beck equipment, surrendered himself to Inspector Robert T. MacPherson, of the black hand squad, and denied there had been such an agreement. Relations between the Becks and himself, Galbo said. always had been friendly. Although he did not know the brothers were continuing operations "along the river, Galbo is quoted as saying, he had no objection to their doing so. Despite the fact that police tirelessly have pursued several different theories to the murders, they have made no substantial headway. The witnesses and suspects brought in, typical of those involved in feud killings, refuse to talk. Men who have been arrested since the investigation began, in addition to Galbo and Dillon, are Morris Haider, 28, of 438 Palmer avenue: Phillip Keywell, 28, of 9675 Cameron avenue: Anthony Viviano, 24, of 1012 Rivard street: Sam Laudicina, 22, of 748 Packard street; Sam Stemlo, 22, of 1450 Lafayette boulevard: Sam Loppiccolo, 25, of 2684 Macomb street, and Leo Giorland, 32, of 2963 Brush street. Practically all of those arrested have police records, several of them being among those detained in the recent gangster roundup following the slaying of Patrolman Vivian Welch, of the Bethune avenue station, nearly two weeks ago.

This was where Harold ended his Bio, if he intended more he never finished it. I might also add Harold in his younger days enjoyed horseback riding (he owned his own horse), hunting, fishing with his cousins in Clare, MI, he also was interested in his family genealogy, recording the Beck, Dysinger, Hinsch & Smolnik families. His most cherished possession was the diaries dating 1895-1947) of his Grandfather George W. Hinsch. He was the last remaining survivor of his family having been preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl.
note- According to the caption for the photo above, Harold kept his horse at the Duane Dysinger farm in Clare, MI (see Horace Dysinger homestead above). Duane and Harold were second cousins; William Dysinger was their shared great-grandfather.

✞Teegardin, Emil O. 11/8/1925 - 4/15/2016 April 15, 2016, was the departure date for my next great adventure where I will be joining my wife, of 32 years, Joyce. I always sang my siren song to my surviving daughters Stacia (Wynn Hazen) and Lindsey (Steve Diffenbaugh) Teegardin, my granddaughters Adria (Paul) Ford and Alexis (Alexander) Bastidas and great-grandchildren, Landon, Isabelle, and Lucille Ford. I did it my way where the journey always exceeded the destination. I served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, following the war; I got hooked on my life time passion of sailing. I enjoyed the brotherhood of the Masonic Lodge #17 where I achieved the position of Worshipful Master. My family plans on celebrating my adventures this summer. ✞Nicholas Falcone Director of Bands, 1927–1928 - Nicholas Falcone was Director of Bands at Ann Arbor High School for just one year, 1927–1928. This coincided with Falcone's first year as Director of Bands at The University of Michigan. In fact, despite the close and long history of the university's influence and interaction with Ann Arbor High, Falcone was the only director to lead at both institutions.Falcone has been described as not only a musician of the highest caliber, but a man of great courage and integrity. Born in Italy, Nicholas emigrated to the United States in 1912 to pursue a career in music. He found work in Ann Arbor as a tailor and as a clarinet player in a theater. In 1915, his brother Leonard joined him. Leonard, a trombone player, joined the movie theater band in Ypsilanti that Nicholas was conducting. The brothers soon developed sound reputations as musicians and conductors in the Ann Arbor community, with Nicholas directing the Varsity Band at the U-M prior to his appointment as Director of Bands.
Both brothers were recommended for the position of Director of Bands at Michigan State University that had opened up for the fall of 1927. Since Nicholas was more settled in Ann Arbor with a wife and a child, it was decided that Leonard, the bachelor, should take the position in East Lansing. Leonard went on to great success and fame at Michigan State, while Nicholas began his tenure as Director of Bands at the University of Michigan, and his one-year position as Director of Bands at Ann Arbor High School.
The fall of 1927 must have been a time of excitement and challenge for him, as the new Michigan Stadium opened and the band began to present more elaborate formations and drills to please the record crowds. It was under his direction in 1932 that the University of Michigan Band (not called the "Marching Band" until 1936) created the first "script Ohio," predating OSU's now famous similar formation.
At Ann Arbor High School, Falcone was following Joseph Maddy's three years as Coordinator of Music in the Ann Arbor Public Schools and his groundbreaking work in music education techniques. Falcone took the first steps in developing the high school band as a separate organization from the orchestra. Juva Higbee, who had been hired in the fall of 1927 as well, lead the orchestra and rehearsed her group three times a week, while Falcone rehearsed the band twice a week, with students in each ensemble receiving a quarter-credit. Falcone was naturally not able to significantly increase the size or quality of the high school band in his one year, but he was able to keep the momentum going for his successor, William Champion.
Nicholas' brilliant career came to a devastating end in the early 1930s when he was afflicted with a loss of hearing. He resigned as U-M's Director of Bands in 1935, opening the door for another legendary director of Italian descent, William D. Revelli. Nicholas Falcone was the third person to receive the University of Michigan Band Alumni Association Honorary Life Membership Award, following Revelli and Louis Elbel, composer of "The Victors."
The Ann Arbor High School Bands will always remember Nicholas Falcone's brief tenure as their director, an important and cherished part of our foundation of excellence.

✞The world has lost a ray of sunshine. Marion (Weinmann) Falcone passed away July 9, 2021. She was born on November 6, 1929 to Margaret and Carl Weinmann in Ann Arbor, MI. Even though she was born one week after the stock market crash of 1929 and grew up without much, her stories told of a magical childhood. She married Nicholas Falcone in 1951, and they had a wonderful life together along with their children Dan and Carol. Nick and Marion enjoyed golf, travel and being with family and friends. Marion worked for many years at Jacobson’s in the audit department. She truly lived life to the fullest. Marion loved to be around people and her sparkly personality made people want to be around her. In her years after Nick passed, she enjoyed playing cards, going to water aerobic classes at St. James Club and going out with the girls for a bite. She kept herself busy! Most of all she was fun and had fun! She lived a long and beautiful life. She is survived by her son Dan (Debbie) Falcone, daughter Carol Chiantis, grandchildren Lisa Falcone, Mark (Elissa) Falcone, Max Chiantis, Ella (Zach) Clifford and great grandchildren Addison and Ben Falcone and Mila Jean Clifford along with many nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of her life at Walker Funeral Home on Sylvania Avenue on Wednesday July, 21 at 1:00. We all miss our Go-Go but we are thankful for the time we had with her. When asked about the secret to a long life, her answer was “eat chocolate”. Donations may be sent to Children’s Tumor Foundation Mail Code: 6895 P.O. Box 7247 Philadelphia, PA 19170-0001

✞The Clare community lost one of its longtime residents on August 7, 2021. Surrounded by family, Virgie Mae (Dysinger) Wilson entered the gates of Heaven at the age of 101 and 10 months. She was born on October 4, 1919 in Clare County, the daughter of Walter (Dan) and Mabel (Robinette) Dysinger. She was the youngest of eight siblings, all preceding her in death. Virgie graduated from Clare High School in 1936 and married the love of her life, Roy Wilson, a Vernon Twp. farmer, in June of 1937. To this union were born four children. Janet (Ray) Merritt, Joyce (Dick) Crane of Debary, FL, Bill Wilson, and Debbie (Greg) Van Buskirk of Hampton, VA. Janet and Bill preceded her in death. Roy and Virgie spent their lives on the Wilson farm in Vernon Twp. Virgie worked as a payroll clerk at Holly Carburetor after her children were in school and then helped establish the Clare Credit Union, where she worked until 1971. After Roy’s death in 1973, Virgie took over his Vernon Township clerk position, keeping that job until the mid-1990’s and also working part time at Seiter Bros. Lumber Co. until 1977. Virgie’s later years were filled with happy times and activities. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she sang bass in the choir and participated in Bible studies and other church activities. She enjoyed her many friends (and a good game of Scrabble) well into her 90s. Once she discovered technology, “Grandma Virgie” as she was called, was a fierce opponent while playing Words with Friends, and it wasn’t long before those she played with became fast friends. She also loved reading on her Kindle and following her family and friends on FaceBook. Virgie’s family was her source of pride. She loved them fiercely and sacrificially, prayed for them daily, and they all knew it and felt it. She adored her grandchildren, greats, and great-greats and the rest of her extended family. In turn, they adored her. She was the true matriarch and everyone loved to be with her. She will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts. Visitation and services will be held at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home on Friday, August 13, 2021. Visitation will begin at 11 A.M. with services led by her grandson, Pastor David VanBuskirk to be held at 1 P.M. Burial will follow in the Vernon Twp. Cemetery with her grandson-in-law Pastor Joe Thompson officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Clare United Methodist Church. Vincent "Ray"
►Obituary: click to expand/collapse
✞Vincent “Ray” Merritt of Lansing, Returned to his Creator on May 21, 2020 at the age of 83, after a 3-year battle with cancer and kidney disease. Ray, as he was known, was born in Edmore, Michigan to Hollis and Irene (Morton) Merritt on January 16, 1937. The family included older sister, Kay, younger sister, Carol, and the youngest sibling, brother Drew. A graduate of Farwell High School in 1955, he was a star athlete – captain of the basketball team and played football and baseball. The family owned a series of taverns and restaurants, and Ray learned the restaurant business at an early age waiting tables and helping with the cleaning. As a teenager, he started his own lawncare business during the summer months. His work ethic and attention to quality and detail soon earned him a large customer base. Following graduation from high school, Ray entered the United States army. He had a long desire to become a paratrooper, but shortly before leaving for an assignment in Germany, he suffered the loss of his vision in his left eye. He spent several weeks in Walter Reed Hospital. This resulted in a medical discharge from the military in 1957.
In the summer of 1958, he renewed a friendship with Janet Wilson which grew, and they were married in September 1959. To support his growing family, Ray worked at various jobs including manufacturing, sales, and painting. After attending a revival meeting with Janet in 1972, he was baptized into Christ, a decision which changed his life. In 1984 he felt a strong calling to enter the ministry and began attending classes at Great Lakes Christian College, along with his son, who was a senior at the college, and his daughter. While still attending classes, he was asked to begin preaching at a small church near South Bend, IN., where he and Janet remained after receiving his Advanced Preacher Training degree. During his preaching career, he and Janet also served at churches throughout Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. He was asked to preach at revivals throughout the country and built an educational program to guide men interested in evangelizing. Several program participants chose to become preachers. In November 2005, Janet succumbed to Cancer. Not long after, he retired from preaching, however, four years later he was asked to serve at a Lansing church as an associate to help the growth of the church and spread the gospel to the urban population. He was also asked to return to the small church near South Bend where he and Janet served at the beginning of his preaching career. During this time, he met Cathy (Cronkright) Robinson, and the two were married in July 2010. Following some health issues, he eventually retired for a second time.
Retirement did not stop his enthusiasm or passion for spreading God’s word. Ray continued to work with and encourage struggling churches and to contact and encourage young preachers. He traveled throughout Michigan gathering church leaders together to learn from each other, share successes, and work out solutions to issues preventing church growth. In 2016, Ray invited men from churches in the greater Lansing and surrounding areas to join him in forming the Great Lakes Christian Men’s Fellowship. The mission is to share the gospel, support local mission endeavors, and promote fellowship among men of like precious Christian faith. This organization has grown significantly and continues to meet each month.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Hollis Merritt, and sisters Carol Perry and Kay Shilling. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; brother, Drew (Barbara) Merritt of Port Huron, MI; sons, Randy Merritt, of San Diego, CA, Barry (Janet Wellman Tarnosky), of Howell, MI; daughter, Tracy (Michael) Kjergaard of Fort Wayne, IN.; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family including his mother-in-law, Virgie Wilson of Clare, MI.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Friday, July 17, 2020 at Charlotte Church of Christ, 64 Vansickle Dr., Charlotte, MI 48813. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions in Ray’s name can be made in lieu of flowers to White Fields World Ministries or the food pantry at All Nations Christian Church in Lansing.
