Early Reunion Group Photo (split in half for sizing)
This group photo was taken at one of the earliest Disinger reunions with about 140 people, location unknown. The USA flag hanging in the middle just above the top row looks like the 45-star 13-stripe flag from 1896 to 1908.
In the top portion, the second man from the left with a white beard in the middle row appears to be Samuel A. Disinger. The fifth person from the left in the same row looks like Samuel's son Chauncey Franklin Disinger, and the young man sitting immediately in front of Chauncey looks like his son Howard H. Disinger age 15 to 22 years old depending on the year.
If you can identify anyone else in this picture please let us know at the reunion.
update- The picture was likely taken on 14 Aug 1903 at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Ernest (see newspaper article). One of the headlines mentioned that 152 people attended the reunion. The paragraph highlighted in red says Rev. Mr. Allatt took a picture of the group. Rev. George H. Allatt was the minister for the Royalton Methodist Episcopal Church (see below)
From Carolyn (Tomaino) Epps:
My grandmother, Florence Mabel Dysinger, is in the center, third row from the top, below the left edge of the flag, between the faces of two children. The man below her, third row from the bottom with a mustache and beard looks like John Behe. (see below)
Union-Sun & Journal Sep 23, 2018 - Royalton United Methodist Church celebrated its 200th anniversary last week. - The 200th anniversary was marked with a 9 a.m. morning worship and an anniversary celebration that featured cupcakes, a cake and guest speaker Bishop Mark Webb. Niagara Frontier District Superintendent Rev. Carlos Rosa-Laguer was also in attendance at the ceremony.
Pastor Bill Edmister said he is “very honored” to be the current pastor of a historic institution like Royalton United Methodist Church. He has been pastor of the church since July 2015. Edminster feels that the loyal following of the church is the main reason for its longevity. “Well, of course the people. They are a very loving congregation that has always reached out to their neighborhood,” he said.
Some church members work at Gasport Community Food Pantry and Clothing Closet. The church itself puts on a monthly meeting for the Royalton community and this year they had a pet blessing at the Royalton Veteran Park.
Royalton United Methodist Church started off as a log cabin with Joel Bixby being largely responsible for forming the Royalton Methodist Society in 1818. In 1836, the first board of trustees was formed and, in 1837, they purchased a large tract of land for $50. The original edifice was erected in 1838, with worshippers facing south. It was rebuilt in 1862 with brick and cost $3,000. The chapel was added in 1895.
