Library of Congress- Portion of 1860 Shearer's map of York County, Pennsylvania
John (Jr) with his wife Harriet and children were in the 1860 US Census surrounded by neighbors' names in the census that placed John (Jr) on his grandfather, John George's original farm (see the highlighted northern farm near S. Salem Church Road on the map above). He likely inherited the farm from his father, John. John (Jr) and Harriet are both interred in Dover Union Cemetery, highlighted above near Dover.
Their son Franklin may have inherited the farm, but by 1900, Franklin was living in Springettsbury Township, York, PA, with his second wife and daughter Mabel. At the same time, his brother John (III), sister Jane, mother Harriet, and young son Eli were living at the original homestead. By 1910, after his sister and mother had died, Franklin and his wife moved in with Eli and his family on what was his great-grandfather John George's original farm with a new house. John (III) had moved to Lancaster, PA, where his wife Emma was originally from.
