✞Humboldt Times, Volume LIX, Number 68, 9 March 1915 - SAMUEL DISINGER SERVICES ARE HELD - Many friends paid their last tribute to the memory of the late Samuel Disinger of Scotia this morning when funeral services were held from the ??? mortuary parlors in this city. The Rev. Crider of Scotia officiated at the services. Interment was made in Ocean View cemetery. Those acting as pallbearers were Frank Cook, ??? Pease, ???. Hunter, A. C. Noe, W. H. Jewett and ???. Mr. Disinger was born in Ohio but he made his home Scotia with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Churiex [sic]. Both, for several years he served during the Civil War, from ??? 1865 and received his honorable discharge at the expiration of hostilities. During the several years spent in Humboldt county, Mr. Disinger made many warm friends. He was formerly a merchant in Ohio.
note- As bad as this OCR scan of the newspaper piece is, this is almost certainly Samuel's obituary. His first wife, Mary, died in 1890. The 1900 US Census for Harrison Township, Montgomery, Ohio, states he was married to Fanny, and he was selling tobacco and cigars. The 1910 US Census in Ohio says he was divorced and owned a cigar store. A 1915 California Death Index lists his death on 4 March in Humboldt, California. His granddaughter, Marvel (Disinger) Hyre, lived nearby in Sonoma, CA. Even though his Find A Grave memorial doesn't state it, he was a Civil War veteran who applied for a pension in 1906.
