From 1988 until he retired in 1992 he was the Senior Health Advisor for ADRA (the Adventist Relief and Development Agency) in Silver Spring, MD. ✞Frank Herman Zuber, son of Urs and Mary Zuber, was born in Paulding County, Ohio, Aug. 9, 1857, on a farm about two miles north of Antwerp, where he lived with his parents until he grew to manhood. He passed to the higher life Saturday, April 2, 1921, at the age of 63 years, 7 months and 23 days. He was united in marriage to Christena Wentworth June 12, 1884. To this union were born seven. children, Gertrude, Carrie, Florence, Lizzie, Winnifred. Albert and Leon-tine. Those who survive him are the wife, daughters Mrs. Wilbur Hopkins, Mrs. Addie Good. Mrs. Johnnie Gordon, Leontine, and son Albert. Mrs. Dallas Camp and his small daughter Carrie Angeline preceded him in death. He also had eight grandchildren, three having passed to the better land in infancy. In his father's family there were eleven children, three girls and eight boys. His father, mother, two sisters and two brothers. have been on the other side a number of years. After his marriage he rented. his father's farm where he resided a few years. From there he with his family moved to the Lincoln farm. In 1897 he moved to the farm in Defiance County, which he had previously purchased, and by his untiring efforts converted it from brush, stumps and swamp to the fertile fields and modern. home which it now is. There he remained until his departure, and it is there he will be so much missed. He was a man of strong convictions, with a keen sense of right and wrong. treating his neighbors and friends as he would have them treat him; not waiting for them to do but doing himself and setting others a good example, thus making himself many friends, whose hearts are full of tears. He was always ready to assist those who were in sorrow and distress and with his encouraging words and cheerfulness has lightened the burdens and sorrows of many. Perhaps the most beautiful trait of character he possessed was his love for children, and children naturally loved him. He was greatly devoted to his own family and was a husband and father in the true sense of the word. He took a great interest in public affairs, was progressive and in favor of all improvements. for the betterment of the community. It may be truly said of him that "He lived in the house by the side of the road, and was a friend to man." Thou glorious spirit land. Oh that we could behold thee as thou art, the region of life and love, and the dwelling place of those whose being has flowed onward, like a silver clear stream, into the solemn sounding main, into the ocean of eternity. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5, at 2 o'clock from the M. E. church at Hicksville, conducted by Rev. Elizabeth Schauss, of Toledo, assisted by Rev. F. D. Dunakin, of Sherwood. Interment in Forest Home cemetery.

✞Joan Hermann, 79, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Isabelle (Hopkins) Parent. She was a graduate of New Haven High School where she enjoyed cheerleading & drama. She married her high school sweetheart, Dale, and lived a blessed life together in New Haven for 61 years. She was a member of Emanual Lutheran Church, New Haven, where she & Dale taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and surrounded themselves with faithful friends for life. She was a strong supporter of Compassion International and participated actively in Bible Study groups such as Bethel, BSF, and countless small group studies. Joan so loved her family and friends. A lifelong partner to Dale, together they built a beautiful marriage carrying them on a joyous and committed ride through life’s highs & lows. She loved her four children beyond measure and set a shining example for them in all respects. They were blessed to have a mom who welcomed and loved on all their friends. Her time with her grandchildren was precious & filled with unforgettable fun like building the “cool cousins playhouse” each summer or leading them in the “Fast Dance” or singing her favorite “Zip-A-Dee-Doo Dah” and “I Feel Pretty” songs as well as a multitude of other festive activities. Joan treasured her time with friends. Whether hosting card parties with her bridge group or New Year’s Eve gatherings with infamous “white elephant” exchanges, all looked forward to their get-togethers. Joan loved life and found joy and meaning in all she did. She lived each day to the fullest and found ways to do it all. Whether it was taking care of 10,000 chickens on the family farm, coordinating our crazy, disorganized household or managing and building the office & IT structure for her brother’s Fort Wayne Ophthalmology practice for over 25 years – it was always done well with passion and love. Sadly, due to Alzheimer’s, we have not seen the real Joan in recent years. Happily, we have a lifetime of memories of her to bring us joy along with the comfort of knowing she is now with our Father in Heaven…helping Him organize festivities for a future reunion with us all! She is survived by her husband Dale; children, Chadd, Conn (Connie), and Curt (Lylian) Hermann, and Kristen (Ray) Mendenhall; siblings, Dr. Rex (Connie) Parent and Jill (Jay) Howell; grandchildren, Andrew (Laila), Lyndsey (Matt) Stein, Megan, Kendall, Amanda, Alexandra, Isabelle, and Abygail Hermann. Jake, Luke (Kory), Kate, and Mitchell Mendenhall; and great grandchildren, Ella and Ady Stein. She is also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Heather Hermann, and her sister and brother-in-law Beth (Tom) Bohlsen. She then attended Hanover college, where she met her husband, Thomas A. Bohlsen (Hanover '57), who preceded her in death on 12/22/12. Beth graduated from Hanover in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in education. Beth married Tom on July 11, 1959, and together they then moved to Tehran, Iran to teach English and other subjects to Iranian students, until their return to the US in 1961. Tad Bohlsen (1964), and N. Nan Dill (1966) were born, and then became a homemaker for her family. Beth was a very active follower of Christ, helping Tom with the initial startup of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, both nationally and in Indiana in the 1950's and 1960's, and holding,, on her own, many adult and youth bible studies through the years, often in her and Tom's home. Even after Tom's retirement from teaching and coaching in 1992, and then from his work as commissioner for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2008, Beth was constantly seeking out, encouraging, and loving young and old wherever and however she could, touching countless lives in her journey here. She also loved this country and the blood, sweat and tears so many have shed through its history to keep its citizens safe and free and hopeful and productive and wise. Her deep hope, and real belief was that after we all fulfill God's earthly plan for us - we will all be gifted by the Trinity to meet, greet (hug), and share (talk) and glorify the One and Only Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Three in One) in Heaven - and there continue to glorify Him and fulfill His plan for us forever in eternity.
