WikipediA - During the War of 1812, the "Niagara Frontier" refers to the area along the Niagara River, where the most intense fighting between American and British forces occurred, with numerous battles fought around Fort Niagara, including the notable battles of Chippewa and Lundy's Lane, making it one of the most heavily contested battlefronts of the war; this region saw significant destruction to settlements and heavy casualties on both sides.

Excerpt from Frank Disinger's reunion paper 1999 Dysinger's Corner:
"Dysinger (Corners) was undoubtedly named after one of its early settlers: George Deissinger, his wife Elizabeth Hollenbach and the first seven of their thirteen children arrived in the town of Royalton in 1830.
George (1786-1847) was born in Cumberland Co, PA on August 12 1786 the son of Nicolaus and Eve Catherine Deissinger (Dysinger in some records) He served during the war of 1812 from Tyrone Township, Cumberland Co, PA as a private in Capt. David Moreland’s Company with service near Fort Erie and Buffalo, New York, His troop was commanded by Col. James Fenton, He served from 1812 to 1814 being discharged March 1, 1814 and mustered out in Tyrone Township.
George and Elizabeth were married in Loysville Cumberland Co. (later Perry Co.) in 1809 where their son John was born in 1809. They moved to Fayette, Seneca Co, NY in about 1815 and children Benjamin, Lydia, George (II), Elizabeth, Isaac, and Daniel were born there. Prior to Albert Nicholas’ birth on April 7, 1830 they moved to the town of Royalton, Niagara Co, NY. His name appears in the 1830 Niagara Co. census on page 370.
Most of George’s children married local people and during that generation the spelling of the last name changed from Deissinger to Disinger or Dysinger. On his tombstone in Union Cemetery George’s last name is spelled Disinger."

8239 Bunker Hill Road, built 1842
Excerpt from Frank Disinger's reunion paper 1999 Dysinger's Corner:
"His [George's] original home was a log cabin located on the north side of Locust Street (now Akron Road) just west of the intersection of Akron and Bunker Hill Roads. In 1842 he built the stone house, now 8239 Bunker Hill Road, located on the north side just east of the same intersection. It was used as a hotel. The original log cabin, then approximately 100 years old, was destroyed during the 1930’s when Akron Road was improved by widening and the addition of curves. A farm pond was dug on or near it’s site, using the fill for road work."
Occupants of the stone house/farm:
1842-1873 George & Elizabeth Disinger
1873-1887 William H Disinger
1888-188x Samuel Disinger
188x-1890 Henry & Elizabeth Dysinger
1890-190x Elizabeth Dysinger widow
1910-1918 Melanchton & Cora Dysinger (rented)
1918-1942 Cora Dysinger widow (rented)
1942-1957 Cora Dysinger widow (purchased)
1957-1979 Morton Sr. & Iva Dysinger
1979-2005 Iva Dysinger widow
2002-2011 Onalee (Dysinger) Landers Iva's daughter
2012-2023 Michael Landers Onalee's son
note- George's hotel was more likely a hostel than a modern hotel. While there may have been separate rooms with dry sinks and beds, guests probably had to share the other facilities in the hotel. Also, the hotel may have helped finance or influence certain other endeavors of the Disinger family. Some of George's sons had impressive houses and large farms, particularly George II. George II's house/farm was eventually owned by his nephew, Samuel Dysinger, who had a reported 800 acres of farmland and was a major wheat farmer. William Dysinger moved his family to Lockport and then Redlands, CA, after he had owned the hotel. Samuel Dysinger purchased the house in 1888 for his son Albert. Henry Dysinger acquired the hotel after Samuel and already owned 2 other farms. W. Elwin Dysinger had the hotel after Henry and owned 200 acres of farmland. After renting and operating the hotel for about 30 years, Melanchton Ort Dysinger's widow, Cora (Mills) purchased it. George's grandson, Dewey Dysinger, moved to Saranac Lake, NY, and built a similar large rooming and boarding cottage.
While it may not seem apparent today, Akron Rd was close to Lewiston Rd (Rt. 77) for travelers, especially if they were headed for east or south Lockport. Lewiston Rd, being more than 200 years old at the time, was one of the few improved roads in Royalton because it was the main route for horse and wagon travel from Batavia, NY, to Niagara County and Fort Niagara. Even today, people use it as a shortcut to the NY I-90 Thruway entrance/exit in Batavia. Akron Road was also a well-used road for people traveling from Lockport to Akron, NY. While the traffic volume wasn't like a thruway today, George and the others may have been able to keep the hotel mostly full, except during winter months. Once cars and trucks became commonplace and used paved roads, the hotel's business likely declined. Travelers may have also brought trade opportunities providing welcome income for cash-poor farmers.

✞THE LOCKPORT JOURNAL Tuesday, November 8, 1904 - Mrs. Lydia Behe (Died 2 Nov 1904) - Lydia Disinger was born in Seneca county. N. Y., May 7, 1819. When 18 years of age she became the wife of Edward Behe, and moved to South Royalton, in a new home, 16x16, built in the woods by her husband, on the ground where now stands the house in which she died Nov. 2, aged 85 years, 5 months and 26 days.
Working at the carpenter trade her husband was obliged to leave her alone often all day, or all week, yet the brave and true young bride, unselfishly and lovingly kept her place amid willing toil and true devotion. She became the mother of six children, Jacob at Reynolds Basin, George, Andrew and Edward of Royalton, Elizabeth at home and Theodore at Middleport. These children are all yet living and were with the mother during her last illness. Elizabeth, having the chief care of the mother, has the recognition by all of an unselfish and devoted daughter, whose loving and watchful attention over the aged parent has commanded the admiration of all who knew her. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive the departed. Mrs. Behe was one of 13 children, three of whom yet live, Nicholas Disinger of Iowa, William at Disingers and Andrew of Memphis, Mich.
Brief funeral services were held at the home at 10:30 on Friday. Nov. 4, and at a later hour at the Baptist church, Royalton. Rev. H. J. Watkins officiating, assisted by the pastor of the church. The bearers were the grandchildren, John, Stacy, Daniel and Edward Behe, the grand son-in-law, Charles Ranney, and great grandson, Stanley Behe. Taylor & Reynolds were the undertakers.
note- Edward was listed as a farmer, not a carpenter, in 4 censuses up to 1875, just before he died. That's not to say he might have done carpentry, too.

✞DIED. In the town of Royalton, Niagara county, Monday, July 7, 1884, George Dysinger, aged 62 years, 1 months and 22 days. The subject of this notice was born in Seneca county, N. Y, When about nine years of age his parents moved to Niagara county, locating in the town of Royalton, now known as Dysinger's Corners. There he grew up to manhood, in which years he also grew in moral virtues, which became the forces that moulded his life and directed it in the path which ensures prosperity and happiness. On October 17, 1843, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Mary Miller, daughter of John Miller, deceased, of the town of Royalton. This union proved to be a happy one. In a year or two after their marriage they removed to the place where he departed this life. Here they employed their united efforts in the acquisition of earthly possessions to make them comfortable happy in their earthly relatives. In doing this the higher duties of life were not neglected. Christ was confessed as their Savior to whom service was given. In the mean time a large family grew up unto them. They all received the most careful parental training. For this there was ample reward in seeing all the children actuated by those virtues that make life noble and happy. The union formed in marriage remained unbroken nearly thirty years when the wife and mother departed this life, preceding the husband a little more than nine years. A little more than a year ago a beloved son and brother was laid away to rest, and now the father sleeps at their side. Mr. Dysinger possessed many sterling virtues. He was upright and honest, obliging and kind to any who needed aid and sympathy. A father, friend and neighbor has gone. His counsel and friendship will never again be enjoyed on earth. Peace be to his ashes.

✞George Michael Dysinger, age 67, passed away on Feb. 12, 2019, in Kingwood, after a long and valiant battle with ALS. His graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.
George (Mike) was born Jan. 30, 1952, in San Antonio, to George Edward Dysinger and Greta Poston Dysinger. Growing up with his father in the Air Force saw him attending schools in Sanwich, England; Abilene, Texas; and Keflavik, Iceland; and graduating from Gatesville High School in 1970. He attended Texas A&M earning a PhD in education administration in 1979. He taught 10 years at A&M in the College of Engineering, from 1977 to 1986. George then moved to Houston and taught at Alvin Community College for a year. His next job was working at SIP engineering in 1988, followed by Parsons Engineering from 1988 to 1993 and finally BEI Engineering from 1993 to 2016. George had a passion for many things. He started collecting baseball cards at a very early age and never stopped. He amassed over 2,000 cards, as well as other memorabilia. You can ask anyone in the family about his Fiesta Ware. Every Christmas, we received Fiesta Ware. He had over 50 Fiesta Ware napkin rings in every color. Ranch Oak furniture was another favorite, filling many rooms in his house. George loved 1968 Ford Mustangs. Car parts were all over his house and garage. He collected items associated with Keflavik, Iceland and cherished many special memories from when he lived there. Model airplanes and military memorabilia held fond memories as well. Bottles of Tabasco Sauce, candy t-shirts, dishtowels, you name it, he had it and or gave it to someone he cared about. He had done work with genealogy back to the 1600s. He has cousins everywhere. If he knew you were taking a trip, he would say “You have a cousin in a graveyard there.” Beatles music was also one of his loves. He had an extensive collection of Beatles memorabilia. He even designed a quilt that someone pieced together for him of Beatles items. We all knew him to be brilliant, kind, quirky, silly, sweet, very opinionated and extremely eccentric. One of a kind for sure!
He was preceded in death by his father, George E. Dysinger and his brother, Glen E. Dysinger. He is survived by his mother, Greta Boales of Belton; sister, Margaret Campbell of Robinson; sister-in-law, Sherrie Dysinger of Waco; nieces, Mary and Hannah; nephews, Wayne, Shaun and Nathan; step-sister Janice Putska and husband, Jeff, along with their sons Andrew and Zachary Pustka; many aunts, uncles and cousins along with numerous friends and coworkers.
Our family wishes to express a very special thank you to his companion Virginia for the love, care and time you gave George. Also, thank you Kevin for all the things you have done for George. George will be deeply missed by his family. Everything is copacetic. Memorials can be made to the ALS Society online or at the Austin Office, 1315 Sam Bass Cir., Unit B5, Round Rock, TX 78681.

►Obituaries: click to expand/collapse
✞Walter Michael "Mick" Dysinger died Monday morning, October 31, 2011, in Gillette, WY. He was born in Butte, MT, on March 17, 1923. He was the son of Henrietta and Dick Dysinger and attended local schools. Walter began work at a very young age so that he could help support his mother and sister after the death of his father. When World War II began, he entered the military, where he drove a tank destroyer. He was injured in battle and received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for service under action. Following his military service, he went to work for the Montana Highway Patrol. Among other duties, he was assigned to administer the driver's exam. Family lore holds that Mick once flunked an entire class of students. He married Rosemary Keavney on April 10, 1948. Shortly after his marriage, he returned to Butte and began working at Wilson's Motors continuing his life-long passion for automobiles. Up until his death, he was contemplating which vehicle he wanted to get next. In order to better support what he hoped would be a large family, he went to work as a driver for Safeway Foods. He worked as a driver until his retirement in 1982. Upon retirement, he and Rosemary began to travel, enjoying visits to their children and families located across the United States. Mick also enjoyed spending time with his "retirement" dogs — Boomer and Charlie. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Silver Beaus and Belles Square Dance Club, the Happy Times Dance Club and the Elks. Mick was a great friend and was always there whenever there was a need. He spent many happy hours visiting with his friends over a "bite to eat".
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosemary; his children, Janice (Kenn) Gray of Gillette, Elaine (Jim) Benner of Denver, Mike (Rose) Dysinger of Escalon, CA, Dan (Catherine) Dysinger of Tucson, AZ, Jeanne (Rob) Farrell of Sunnyside, WA, Jennifer (Joe) Sologub of San Antonio, TX; and daughter-in-law, Patty Dysinger of Butte; grand and great-grandchildren, Jason Gray, Megan Gray, Zachary Gray, Maratha (Dwight) Paulson and son Jacob, Mike (Tara) Benner and son Keldon, Jon Dysinger, Richard (Billie) Dysinger and son Logan, Ryan Benner, Katie (Sam) Walters and daughter Lydia, Eamon Dysinger, Conor Dysinger, Danielle Dysinger and Hannah Dysinger; niece, Felice Keck; nephews, Emmitt, Jeff and Ed Cleary, and families and cousins Peggy and Mike Walsh and family. Rosemary met the love of her life Walter "Mick" Dysinger following WWII. They were married on April 10, 1948 and they happily danced through 63 years. Rosemary and Walter were blessed with the gift of a large family bringing seven children into their lives, Elaine, Mike, Dan, Dave, Jeanne, Janice and Jennifer. Throughout her life, Rosemary was a wonderful friend. Her first and greatest friend was her sister Helen. She also remained close with her high school friends and made countless others through the years. Her children remember many meetings of the ?club ladies? that brought lots of laughter into the house. Rosemary was a beautiful seamstress who learned to sew during WWII while ?all the boys were gone?. She started making clothes for her sister Helen and herself and continued through the raising of all seven children. Music was an integral part of Rosemary?s life. She played the piano every night up to the very last years of her life and would suffer through countless hours of off key singing from her children. She also volunteered at the Sheltered Workshop where she played music for sing alongs with the clients. On the right is 8395 Bunkerhill Rd. On the left is George Disinger's stone house/hotel built in 1842. A quarter of a mile past the picture to the right is the Royalton Bible Church and Union (Dysinger) Cemetery. The road in between is Gasport Rd. which split part of Dysinger farm at some time. This is the same house William Dysinger, his son Ralph, his grandson Lloyd, and their families occupied. Even though Zillow lists this house as built in 1840 it's not on either the 1852 or 1860 map at this spot but is on the 1875 map with William Dysinger's name. It's also possible it was moved from a nearby location since houses were moved early on by using jack screws, wooden rollers, and horses.
Gasport Rd was at one point called Disinger-McNalls Rd. and might have also been called Ernest Rd. previously. Early rural farmers were pretty loose with road names since none of the names were official until the mid-1900s.

In the 1900 US Census for Royalton and 1920 US Census Myron Dysinger, his wife Mina (Hartraunft), and his mother-in-law Mary Hartranft lived on Johnny Cake Rd/Lincoln Ave Ext. According to the 1908 Historic Maps Town of Royalton map this is roughly where Myron's farm was located, just about 2 miles north of his father William Dysinger. By 1919 Myron and Mina were living in Lockport according to his obituary. When Mina died she bequeathed a farm on Riddle Rd. to her father's nieces and nephews. She likely inherited the farm from her family. On the 1908 Royalton map (see above) was a farm labeled Mrs. M. Hartranft about 4 miles south of Dysinger Rd. on Riddle Rd., possibly Mina's mother.

William and Sarah (Disinger) Zachariah lived here in 1890 where there were 2 houses, presumably one for Willam and Sarah and a second house for their son(s). After William and Sarah died, in the 1910 and 1920 US Census, the listings indicate William L. ✞Lockport Daily Journal, Friday 18 August 1905 - Farm Hand Found Dead in Field - The dead body of George Zachariah was found Thursday morning in a field of Charles Singer's farm near Dysingers' Corners, town of Royalton. He had been missing since last Monday. The last seen of him alive was when he started from this city to walk home to Royalton Monday morning. His death is believed to have been due to heart trouble. He was 30 [sic] years old and single. He was employed as a farmhand on Adelbert Dysinger's farm.
note- George was (A)Delbert Dysinger's first cousin once removed, even though they were about the same age. George's Uncle John Deacon Dysinger was (A)Delbert Dysinger's grandfather. (A)Delbert's farm was on Bulmore Rd. in Royalton, which was his father Aaron Dysinger's former farm. George's death was reported in three local newspapers. One called him a hermit, and another said he "lived strangely" because he was a middle-aged bachelor who lived alone. George had reportedly stayed overnight in Lockport at Stainthorpe Bros. stables on Pearl St. Saturday night before attempting to walk home.

Ellis Zachariah farmed with his twin Elmer and other brothers until about 1905, when his older brother George died. (see above) Ellis was mentioned in a 1902 newspaper piece that he worked in Buffalo for a summer. Ellis was also in a 1904 newspaper article mentioning his making arrangements to go west, and George Striffler would work the farm. About a decade later, in Sept 1918, Ellis registered for the WWI Draft in Merrill, Oregon, just north of California. He listed his employer as the US Rec. Service. There were several national wildlife refuges near Merrill. He also listed his nearest relative as Mary Zachariah, apparently his wife. In Sept 1928, he registered to vote as a Republican in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. He listed Lockport, NY, as his birthplace with William and Sarah Zachariah as his mother and father. He also stated that his occupation was a laborer. A cousin, Spencer Bair, also lived in Portland before he died in 1935, although it seems unlikely they knew each other.
In 1930 and 1936, Ellis registered to vote again at 2 different street addresses than before, still employed as a laborer. Mary Zachariah died in 1930 in Klamath County, Oregon, so she wasn't living with Ellis at the time of her death. Ellis and Mary seemingly separated before 1928, with her staying in Klamath County. In the 1940 US Census for Portland, Ellis, at 60, was single, working as a construction laborer with an 8th-grade education, making $150 a month, although he only worked 6 weeks in 1939 (the end of the Great Depression). The house he owned at the time he died is currently a parking lot.
