✞Elizabeth Seward Dysinger, 91, died in her home July 5, 2014. Liz was born on a river bottom Muskogee Oklahoma farm Feb. 7, 1923; oldest of three children. She worked hard on the farm; her love of dogs and Oklahoma native pecans remained with her. It was never her plan to stay on the farm, though. She attended OSU where she earned her B.A. in Journalism on May 4, 1943 and she met the love of her life William C. Dysinger. They were married May 11, 1943 in Ft Knox, Ky. While raising four children as an Army wife, Liz found time to lead Girl Scouts, manage thrift stores and volunteer at historical museums near their military postings. The Dysingers settled in Leavenworth in 1968. Liz owned and managed the Corner Cupboard antique store and conducted estate sales for many years. Always involved in community and helping people, she volunteered at the Leavenworth Historical Museum, Meals on Wheels, Carousel Museum and Carnegie Art Center. She was an active member of PEO, Whittier, and the Federated Doll Club on the local and national level. Liz loved to entertain. Her George Washington Birthday Parties were memorable as well as neighborhood picnics for the 4th of July, Mardi-Gras parties and countless lunches and holiday dinners for friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. Survivors are son Tom (Nancy) Dysinger of Justin, Texas, daughter Pamela Gibson of Silver City, N.M., son Robert Dysinger of Las Cruces, N.M., daughter Peggy (Robb) Hensleigh of Winchester Kan. and three grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at the CW Parker Carousel Museum, 320 S. Esplanade, Friday, July 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Come and join us and ride the carousel one more time for Liz. Contributions may be made to the museum.
