Flipgrid

Description: Flipgrid is a tool that allows teachers to pose a question or topic to students. Students then use the app to create a 15 second to 5 minute video about the teacher's topic.

Step-by-step Guide:

1) Download the app, Flipgrid, or go to https://flipgrid.com/ to use with a computer

2) Create an account, either teacher or student; educators receive a Flipcode to give to their class. The Flipcode is how students log in

3) After creating an account, the dashboard will pop up. If you are a student, you will see the name of your class and available Flipgrid topics. If you are a teacher you will see the class name, Flipcode, all of your Flipgrid topics, both active and inactive, and a "New Topic" button.

4) Teachers can make any topic active or inactive with a drop down menu next to each topic. Students can only see the active ones

5) For students to create a Flipgrid, they clip on the Flipgrid logo beneath the topic, and then record!

6) After recording, the video plays back and students can edit their video. Then students take a selfie and submit! It is really easy.

7) Submitted videos pop up underneath the topic on the teacher page for educators to view.

2 Sample Activities:

  • Book Review: this app is cool way for junior high students to give a review on a book they've read instead of writing a book report. Students could be required to read 5 books per semester and do a minimum of 2 minute Flipgrid video about the book. The video requirements could be title, author, main characters, and general plot.
  • Introduction to a topic: Teachers can use this app to introduce new topics in high school history. Students will then create videos with everything they know about the topic and everything they would like to learn. This way the teacher can have an idea of what her students know and what she needs to cover.
