What is a Chromebook?

A chromebook is a small portable computer much like a laptop with the distinction of using an original Chrome Linux-based OS. All data is stored on the cloud instead of the device itself. Instead of running software like other computers it relies on the use of apps much like a cellphone.

Step by step Guide

  1. Get started.
    • Open your Chromebook, plug it in, and make sure you have a google account already made.
  2. Log in.
    • Simply select your default language along with a few other start up questions and put in your google account email and password.
  3. Get to know the OS.
    • The OS (short for Operating System) will be different than what you are use to. The default desktop functions differently than others not allowing you to place programs on it. At the bottom is your shelf containing certain key apps, this can be edited. Where the “Caps Lock” key would be on a Windows PC you can find a search through all application on your computer. Otherwise you can click the small circle in the bottom left and the click all apps on the newly opened window.
  4. Customizing your shelf.
    • It’s simple, just 2 finger click any app while exploring all apps then click “pin to shelf.”
