Create a webpage for your classroom, department, or school position using Google Sites. You can create interesting webpages and make them as basic or intricate as you want. Choose from colorful themes and page templates that make the design much easier - real time savers!Â
Teachers can use the Sites for classroom webpages to communicate with students and parents/guardians about course requirements, assignments, permission slips to be signed, field trips, homework, extra credit help, and much more. Create subpages, post files for parents/guardians/students to view or download, post announcements, upload images, insert videos, link to RSS feeds. Add your own course content and customize the Sites page for your own curriculum. Use some of the additional features Google Sites provides.
A class website can be used to augment what you are doing with Google Classroom. Classroom is designed to be used between teachers and students for the flow of assignments, tests, and classwork. A class website can be used to add additional information and resources for easy access by more than just the students. Class websites can also be used to publish student work/projects.
You can teach your students to use Google Sites for student ePortfolios. Or, they can use Sites for project-based learning, for summary presentations at the end of a unit of study, to demonstrate what they have learned, and to teach their peers.
A Few Tips:
Getting your webpage address to people:
1) If you are just getting started with Google tools, and you don't use them regularly with your students, you
may need a quick way to get your webpage to the students and parents/guardians:
Consider using a short URLÂ
Students and parents can access and bookmark your website for returning to the site/page later
If you use a computer lab with students or mobile devices, have them bookmark your page for themselves
2) How can I make a short/tiny URL? Use any of the tiny URL shorteners to make sharing long URL's easier:
Copy and paste the long URL that points to your webpage into the box the URL shortener site provides
The various URL shortening sites will create a short/tiny URL for you.Â
Give that to the students
The shortened URL's can be added to Google Classroom assignments, emails to students, class blogs, or any method you may use to communicate online. The URL's can also be added to Docs, Forms, etc.
3)Â Later, as you use more Google tools, you will be able to push URL's out to students using other tools.
Visibility Of Your Webpage:
It's important to set the "visibility" options of your webpage.
When your first create your webpage, it's "private."
Only you can view it.
You do NOT share a webpage with students or the public when you want to post it to the WEB for viewing.
You choose the correct "visibility" option (see images below):
In the menu bar, click the person icon (circled below)
The share window will open
You can share your website with select individuals, or
Publish it for the public to view
