More . . .
Google Earth PRO has been available for several years. It is a desktop version, which is an application that must be installed on a computer. Google Earth PRO was being used before Google created the WEB version that works in browsers.
Whereas the PRO version is software and needs to be installed, the WEB version does not need to be installed and works in a browser, online. This makes it very easy to use, especially on Chromebooks and mobile devices.
Google still maintains the PRO version for those users who need advanced features.
You can do more with the PRO version than you can with the online/WEB version.
Users must download and install the PRO version.
However, the WEB version is robust enough to create interesting, useful tours/projects.
The PRO version is available on PC, Mac, and Linux.
You can save tours and projects you've made in Google Earth WEB. The projects will save to the Google Drive you are signed into. You can remove the tour from viewing and open it later by finding it in your Google Drive:
Note: Your screen will look like one of the two images below. Google is creating a new interface for Google Earth WEB:
When starting a project, in the File drop down menu choose, "File > New Drive Project"
Your project will be saved in the Google account you are signed into.
You can remove the project from Google Earth
To open it again, from the File drop down menu choose, "Open From Drive."
This way you can save all your projects in your Google Drive and access them any time you wish.
On your computer, open Google Earth.
Use the same File drop down menu as pictured above
Choose, "New local KML file"
Add placemarkers and features to your project.
Select "Add placemark," "Draw line or shape," or "Fullscreen slide."
Note: KML files will be saved on your computer.
It will not be saved in your Google Drive unless you choose the option to "Create Project In Google Drive." You must import the KML file from your computer when you want to view it. If you create a project that saves in your Google Drive, you can always import it from Drive.
