Create a project
On your computer, open Google Earth in a browser, preferably Google Chrome. Works with other browsers, but Chrome works the best.
Google Earth will look like the image on the right
Click the "Projects" icon in the left menu
A window will open. Click, "Create."
Choose to create a project in Google Drive. Your project will be in your Drive folder, and can easily be opened later on. Plus, it will be saved there for you.
Once you choose to save the project in Google Drive, you will be given the option to name the project. Click on "untitled project."
Add a title and description
To start working on a project, click "New Feature."
See below for adding placemarkers and creating a tour.
Note: Your changes are automatically saved when you create a project.
Open your project directly from the menu
Once you've completed a project, you can open it directly from the sidebar in Google Earth.
On your computer, open Google Earth (in your browser)
To the left, click Projects. Any projects you've created in the Google account you're in, will be listed.
Click on the project you want to open from the Project list.
Open your project directly from Google Drive
You can auto-save your project to Google Drive, where it can be shared with others, and collaboration can be done online. Once shared, others can open the same project in their browsers and edit them.
On your computer, open Google Earth.
To the left, click Projects .
Click New project (blue button in top, right)
From the drop down menu, choose, "Open project from Google Drive." (see the image to the right)
Enter your search term in the Search Box to look for a specific project you've created, or click on one of the projects listed below the search box.
Click Select.
Turn on your browser storage
Note: You can also save to browser storage on your computer. To save to your computer, turn on “Enable browser storage” in the Settings menu.
On your computer, open Google Earth.
Click on Menu .
Click Settings .
Turn Enable browser storage On.
Create a KML file
On your computer, open Google Earth.
To the left, click Projects .
Click New project.
Click Create KML File (see the image to the right)
Add features to the project.
Select "Add placemark," "Draw line or shape," or "Fullscreen slide."
Note: KML files will be saved in your browser storage on your computer.
It will not be saved in your Google Drive unless you choose the option to "Create Project In Google Drive."
