Searching On The Drive Homepage
Use the search box at the top of the Drive page
Great when you can't remember the name of a file
Search by title, part of a title, or words within the file
Click the horizontal lines at the top, right (Image 1)
A window opens (Image 2)
Narrow your search by choosing file type, who owns the file, words the file has, the name of the file, date modified, etc.
Click, "Search" at the bottom, right.

Find Files Shared With You
Useful to find files and documents shared with you by others, if you can't remember the file's name
You can search by the name of the person who owns the file or shared the file, the email address of the owner or person who shared the file, or text inside the file.
Click on the search box at the top of DRIVE (Image 1 above)
In the window that opens, choose any of the following:
Type of file
Owner (can choose anyone can own it, owned by you, not owned by you, or type a specific person's name (Image 3)
If choosing, "specific person," you can add their email address, which may also help you locate the shared file. (Image 4)

Search By Title
Search Within A File
Use this to find words, phrases, keywords, text, labels, etc. you have within files.
Useful when you cannot remember the file the words are in
Use the search box at the top of DRIVE
Choose the type of file you wish to search within, in the section called, "Type."
Type the word/s you are looking for in the section called, "Has the Words."
Google will take you to the file and the exact spot where the word/s are located.
See the example below. The words "want freedom" we located on a specific slide in Google Slides.
Locate Files In Drive
Useful to find documents shared with you by others.
Useful when you cannot remember the folder a file is in
Right click on the name of the file you wish to locate
You will see a drop down menu
Choose, "Show file location"
Find Where An Open File Is Located
Useful to find documents shared with you by others.
Useful to find a file's location from within an open Doc
File > Document Details
Small pop-up opens
Shows folder, owner, creation date, and date modified
You cannot go directly to the folder from this pop-up window
