The SMCP allows for printing inventory item labels in two different ways: either directly to the screen, which can then be printed using the browser's native print functions, or directly to a Zebra-compatible label printer. Label formats are designed to print on a 4" inch wide by 1" tall label, fed horizontally (so labels come 'stacked' one after another on the roll, rather than 'end-to-end'). We recommend a 'piggyback' type of label: these are a kind of 'label on a label': You can peel off the label (which includes a secondary 'backing' after it's peeled) to stick on your inventory while it's in the warehouse. When the item is shipped, or used from a mechanic's truck on a job, it can be peeled off the secondary backing, and stuck on paperwork instead of having the mechanic hand write the item number.
1) The labels can be printed to the screen, with hidden page breaks in between. When that screen is printed from the browser, it will print one label, then 'kick out' (form feed) the next label, print the next, 'kick out' again, and so on until all the labels are printed.
2) The labels can be sent directly to a Zebra printer or compatible device. To do this, the Zebra printer must be connected to a TCPIP network and set up using the 'Edit Label Printers (1104)' function. In this function, the IP address and port (9100 by default for Zebra printers) are recorded. The printer must be accessible from the SMCP web server at this IP address. In addition, you can choose from a list of available Zebra font sizes, and set left and top margins, the heights and widths of the bar codes, and the print darkness from this screen. Test the labels with different settings before printing large numbers of labels.
