1991: Fall of the Soviet Union

"History tells us that huge empires always go down with a lot of noise. The Soviet Union broke up without a civil war, it collapsed gently and gracefully. Now, it’s like the Soviet era is a phantom pain."

Mikhail Gorbachev

The Soviet Union experienced dramatic changes following 1985. Gorbachev came to power, and his leadership was different to any other Soviet leader in the history of the Kremlin. He was much younger and more prepared to change. His visionary reforms for the Soviet economy and political openness had an unintended effect. On December 25th 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed. Marking the end of the Cold War.

"We had 10 years after the Cold War to build a new world order, one that we could be proud to be apart of. And we failed. The United States cannot tolerate anyone acting independently. Every American President has to have a war."

Mikhail Gorbachev

The collapse of the Soviet Union meant that the United States was recognised as the only superpower in the world for the decade following the Christmas of 1991. America used this decade to their advantage, and have secured their dominant influence upon the global community. This has gone unchecked for 25 years. Who will dare to oppose them next?
