Stream to YouTube

Step 1: Enable Zoom Live Streaming on your UW Zoom account

Email UW IT at help@uw.edu to request that Zoom Live Streaming feature be enabled on your UW Zoom account. UW IT will reply with a list of live streaming best practices and you will have to reply with confirmation that you understand and will comply with their best practices. They will let you know once the live streaming feature has been enabled.

Enabling your first live stream may take up to 24 hours. Once enabled, you can live stream instantly.

Step 2: Enable YouTube Live Streaming

  1. Go to http://youtube.com and sign in to your YouTube account that you would like to stream to. You can use any YouTube account to stream to.

  2. Click on the create button near the top right of the page and click Go live.

  3. Follow the prompts to verify your channel.

Step 3: Set up a YouTube Stream

  1. Click on the create button near the top right of the page and click Go live. You’ll be taken to YouTube Studio.

  2. Click Schedule stream near the top right of the page.

  3. Click Create new or you can choose settings from a previous stream then click on Reuse settings.

  4. Enter a title for the stream.

  5. Choose whether you want the stream to be Public, Unlisted, or Private from the drop down.

  6. Choose a category.

  7. Set the date and time for when the stream will go live.

  8. Under Audience, choose No, it’s not made for kids.

  9. Click Create stream.

  10. Your new stream should now be listed under Upcoming.

  11. Click on the title of the stream you created.

  12. Under Stream Settings:

    1. For Stream Latency, choose Low latency for a good compromise between video quality and lag.

    2. Under Additional Settings, toggle on Enable Auto-start and Enable Auto-stop.

    3. If you don’t want people to be able to see the recording of the stream once the stream ends, toggle on Unlist live replay once stream ends.

  13. To disable live chat, click Edit near the top right of the page, click Live Chat, uncheck boxes for Enable Live Chat and Allow Live Chat to replay, then click Save.

  14. Keep this window open as you move to Step 4. You’ll need to copy the Stream key, Stream URL, and YouTube URL.

Step 4: Set up Stream on Zoom Meeting

  1. Go to the Meetings page on the UW Zoom web portal.

  2. Click on the name of an existing meeting you want to use to stream, or schedule a new meeting and save it.

  3. Scroll all the way down and click the Live Streaming tab.

  4. Click on configure live stream settings, or click on Edit link to the right if you need to change existing settings.

  5. Copy the Stream key, Stream URL, and YouTube URL (click on the Share button near the top right to find the YouTube URL) from the stream setup page and paste them to the stream configuration for your Zoom meeting.

  6. Click Save.

Step 5 (optional): Setup Google Slide Q&A

If you want attendees to send in questions, you can set up Google Slide Q&A to manage them.

Step 6: Start streaming from Zoom to YouTube

  1. Start your Zoom meeting.

  2. Start your live stream by clicking on More, then on Live on Custom Live Streaming Service. Important note: you can only use the stream key and YouTube URL once, so if you accidentally went live, you will have to redo Step 3: Set up a YouTube Stream to get a new stream key and YouTube URL, and Step 4 to edit the live stream settings with updated key and URL on your Zoom meeting configuration.
