Create a VoiceThread

Before you start to create your own VoiceThread (VT), it might be helpful to view an example. The VT below is a photography presentation and includes viewer comments. Click the "play" button at the lower left to start then use the arrow keys at the bottom right to scroll through slides. You can see the creator of the VT uploaded photographs, then created an audio narration for each slide. Other samples can be found on the VoiceThread Training website.

Create a VoiceThread: Video Tutorial

Reminder: You must first be logged in to Canvas to create a VoiceThread.

Using VoiceThread is easy! In fact, you can create your own presentation in one minute or less. Watch this VoiceThread tutorial (running time 4:46) to learn how. (You can also view the tutorial at the bottom of this page)

You can comment with text, by recording your voice, recording video, or by uploading audio or video files.

Tips to create a VoiceThread

REMINDER: After you've uploaded slides/graphic files to your VT presentation, it is important to remember to comment on each slide, individually, instead of narrating the entire presentation. This will save you time and grief if you need to edit and/or replace individual slides or comments

You can use multiple media types to generate a full presentation

VoiceThread supports PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (including Office 2007 formats), images, and videos. Store your photos someplace else? VoiceThread even imports photos from Flickr, Facebook, or the web as long as you have a direct link to the image file. Get more detailed information about file types

So, get creative!

Play around in VoiceThread and be sure to check out the tutorials listed within your "VT Home" tab. You can find the tutorials by clicking on the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left corner and selecting tutorials from the list. (See the image below).
