Account Settings: Profile, Contact Methods & Notification Preferences

Video 1: Profile

Canvas allows you to share information about yourself through the Profile. Profiles are visible to instructors and classmates in all your enrolled courses. It's cool to share a little about yourself for all to see. The video below will show you how to add a pic and bio to your Profile. To the right of the video, you'll see the 'quick steps' to access and update your profile.

Update Profile Quick Steps
(The ">" symbol means "click." )

From the Global Navigation Menu > Account > Profile from the list > Options Icon (the 3 vertical dots top right) and add you picture & bio

Video 2: Contact Methods

By default, Canvas will send notifications from your courses only to your Net ID email. However, you can add a different email and/or your mobile phone to receive SMS notifications. You can even add Twitter. This is an important first step to configuring your Notification Preferences so you're always in the loop!

Add Contact Methods Quick Steps

From the Global Navigation Menu >Account > Settings and use the options in the Ways to Contact Section to the right

Video 3: Notification Preferences

It's very important to configure your Notification Preferences. Notifications are sent to the contact methods discussed above and alert you of new Discussion posts, due dates, course content, and more. You can change the frequency of which you receive notifications by type and contact method by clicking on icons shown in the below video. By default, changes you make using the instructions in the below video will apply to all your courses. You can, however, manage notifications for specific courses. Use the link below to see how.

Set Notification Preferences Quick Steps

From the Global Navigation Menu > Account > Notifications and select from the icons in each column. (Icons are explained in the Key at the top.)
