Welcome to 6th Grade Math!!! How exciting!!!
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year and to 6th grade math. I am so excited about the opportunity to spend time with the students in class and to teach math. The math that we will be learning this year will be so essential to a successful future in whatever career they choose. It is my goal to provide a classroom environment where each student can excel.
Please ensure your students come to class prepared and ready to learn. Below are the items that each student needs to bring to class on the first day.
All Students (Please keep the following items in your backpack)
3” 3-ring binder with clear front pouch and pockets with dividers
Pencil pouch to hold supplies
Pencils
Expo marker
5 pack multi-colored highlighters
1 pack of colored pencils
sticky tab dividers (24 pack)
Wired earbuds/headphones (NO WIRELESS OR AIRPODS)
All students give the following items to your home room teacher on the first day of school.
3 Boxes of tissues
2 Boxes (48+ count) of sharpened pencils
1 Bottle of hand sanitizer
1 Container of disinfecting wipes
1 Roll of paper towels
6th Grade Accelerated Students and 6th Grade Regular Students
1 package of notebook paper (given to teacher)
Corrections: If your student wishes to make corrections on classwork or a quiz. I now have a correction form for them. It is located on their google drive under materials or I have hard copies in the room for them to have. This will make it easier for both myself and them so I can see what problems they are reworking.
Missing Assignments: I have also revised how I am doing missing assignments. With 125 students it is hard to keep up with who owes me an assignment and who has finished it so the procedure from here forward will be to sign in when they have completed any outstanding assignments. I will have a binder on my student station marked missing work. They will write the date, their name, the name of the assignment and date completed. This will help me keep better track so I can make sure to get them credit for anything completed.
Extra Credit: If I assign extra credit the score will always be out of 0. The reason for this is to make sure that the extra credit is a help to them and not something that brings their score down. I do not always do extra credit but I have told them if I do, take advantage because it will only help your grade.
ALEKS: I wanted to give a few directions for how to get into ALEKS in case any questions arise at home. In order to get into the program, students need to go to Clever, McGraw Hill (it is a red colored app), and then click on ALEKS.
When they are in ALEKS they will click on continue my path. If they cannot do the lesson that was suggested, they can click on the down arrow under the name of the current lesson name and they can choose whatever 10 topics they would like. They have from Monday-Sunday evening to get all 10 topics completed.
They will be given 10 points for every topic completed. If they forget to do some on 1 week and do extra the next the grade will even out for them, so for ALEKS you might see points over 100.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
