"Reading will take you anywhere."
I am pleased to be your teacher for both 6th grade English Language Arts and 6th grade World History. Our motto for the 25-26 school year will be "Reading will take you anywhere."
Our first quarter in ELA is the Identity Unit that is centered around the essential question: What makes you YOU? We will read a variety of texts in order to answer this question, including the novel HATCHET, by Gary Paulsen. Students will work on an “Identity” Project throughout the quarter as they research and reflect on who they are.
In World History we will study the following chapters: Historian's Toolkit, Early Humans, The Agricultural Revolution and The Fertile Crescent.
Standards Based Assessment (SBA) info:
Students will be completing these short assessments at least 3 times each quarter in order to check their mastery of specific ELA standards. You will be able to see the results in Skyward. Our proficiency goal for these assessments is only a 60%; any score higher than that shows that they truly have mastered that skill!
Quartely ELA iReady requirement:
Q1: 8 passed lessons on their path
Q2: 12 passed lessons on their path
Q3: 15 passed lessons on their path
Q4: 8 passed lessons on their path
Independent Reading (IR) information:
Students will be required to have their own self- selected independent reading book at all times. We will have reading time, journal assignments and projects based on their books.
Weekly Assignments:
Weekly assignments are posted in Google Classroom. Unit emails and important due dates are also communicated via Skyward.
Additional Information:
For those of you that would like to gain an extra field trip this year, the media specialist hosts a Sunshine State Book challenge. All students that read and AR test on all of the SSYRA Books will be eligible for the trip. For a complete list and a review for all of the Sunshine State Books, look at the 25-26 6-8 Sunshine State books
