Course Description & Overview
The objective of this course is to promote a deep understanding of the roots behind America's rich history. Students will be exposed to the historical, geographic, political, economic, and sociological events which influenced the development of the United States through the period of Colonization through the period of Reconstruction following the Civil War. Within this course students will also deepen their literacy and critical thinking skills through applying these skills in a historical context.

*While we do have a class set of textbooks on campus for students to use, we encourage students to become familiar with and to utilize the online textbook available to them accessible through Clever (The McGraw Hill Icon).

You are responsible for reading and following the student handbook as well as classroom procedures and classroom rules. When you make a choice that violates classroom and/or school rules, disciplinary consequences will be implemented. Classroom Procedures:
To complete your assignments by the due date, you need to pay attention to the instructions you are given and use your time wisely. This requires you to respect the classroom rules, classroom procedures, teacher and your classmates.
Beginning of class:
Place your backpack under your student chair - the student's cell phone, wireless headphones/earbuds, and/or smartwatch must be turned off and placed inside their backpack.
Sign on to your computer and silently work on your assigned task.
Be in your assigned seat with your materials before you hear the tardy bell.
During class:
Follow all the expectations, guidelines, procedures and policies set by the School Handbook.
Do not touch anyone else’s computer, keyboard or mouse.
Internet access is exclusively restricted to authorized websites, misuse will result in consequences and/or alternative assignments if appropriate.
Work quietly and independently unless you are working in a group or if the teacher has acknowledged you to speak. It is important to wait your turn to speak, respectfully listen to whoever is talking, and speak only when you are acknowledged by the teacher.
Raise your hand if you have a question or want to leave your seat. Only talk when the teacher has acknowledged you to speak.
Dismissal at the end of class:
Close your Chromebook and pack up your personal belongings
Leave your area clean. Put things back where they belong when you are finished including papers, classroom supplies, textbooks/workbooks, and your chair. Leave your area better than how you found it.
When the classroom is in order, wait at your desk for the instructor to dismiss you.
Grading:
Students’ grades will be determined by using the following categories and percentages:
Practice - 30%
Performance (Mastery) - 70%
Grading Scale:
A (90-100) B (80-89) C (70-79) D (60-69) F (0-59)

In this class, students will be reviewing concepts and skills taught from the previous year and expanding on these skills through a variety of techniques. This class will align closely with your student's regular math class so that similar skills can be practiced until mastery is achieved. The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop mathematical skills and concepts through remedial instruction and practice. Students in this class will receive tailored instruction with a focus on critical thinking problem-solving, test-taking skills and strategies.
