TV Production & 6th Grade Computers Teacher
I am entering my ninth year in education. My first seven years I taught in the great state of Alabama, but I am now happy to call Florida home. This is my second year here in Florida and at The Villages Charter Middle School. To say I am excited to be here and teach at this awesome school is a huge understatement!
I am a die hard Chicago Cubs baseball fan originally from Trussville, Alabama who attended THE University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) graduating in 2001 with a Marketing degree and a minor in Political Science. While at Alabama, I was a proud four-year member of the trombone section of the Million Dollar Band. Having the honor of marching at Alabama provided me an opportunity to travel many places and meet many amazing people, most importantly my wife Corie, who played trumpet in the Million Dollar Band while we were both at Alabama in the late 90's. Following college, I worked for the #1 sports/talk radio station in the southeast, WJOX-AM/WJOX-FM, and for the Paul Finebaum Radio Network for over eight years.
In November 2010, I began working in Tuscaloosa at Clear Channel Radio. I was working in Tuscaloosa on April 27, 2011, the day a devastating EF-4 tornado went tore through the heart of the city, killing dozens. To see the extensive damage and then the residents of the city come together in the aftermath is something that forever changed me and something I will never, ever forget. After my time in Tuscaloosa, I began working at an advertising agency where I worked both in front of and behind the microphone and camera for more than five years helping clients with their marketing and advertising needs for all media.
While I enjoyed my time in TV and radio advertising, in July 2017 I jumped into the world of education teaching Career Tech at two Jefferson County (AL) Schools - Advertising and Graphic Design for four years at McAdory High School in McCalla, Alabama, then teaching TV Production at Hueytown High School in Hueytown, Alabama. I feel as though it is my purpose in life to be an educator, following in my mom's footsteps. Speaking of my mom, both she and my dad are Villagers.
A few fun facts about me....
* I was honored to be named Educator of the Year in 2023 by the Hueytown (Alabama) Chamber of Commerce
* I began the TV Production program at Hueytown (AL) High School in 2021 and currently have former students of my program pursuing a career in it or a similar field
* I am an avid golfer. I played ~ 775 holes of golf this past summer (and still cannot putt), but lowered my handicap to a 7.5 (although I'd be about a 3 or 4 if I was any good with the putter)
* I have been hypnotized twice (once live on-air on a 50,000-watt radio station)
* My wife Corie and I have many goals in life. Since our wedding in April 2009, our biggest goal is stepping foot in all 50 states. We're currently both around 30, so we're always looking for an adventure and a road trip
* We still consider ourselves relatively new to The Villages, and could not be happier and more proud to be a part of the Buffalo family!
