I am Ms. Diaz and I am excited to be your teacher this year! From 2022 - 2023 I used to teach English as a second language in Gifu, Japan and before that I taught English to students in China. I currently possess a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Business Administration. In addition to teaching, I enjoy travelling and partaking in the arts!
I hope you all enter class with an open mind and an eagerness to learn. I strive to create a classroom that empower students to make decisions for themselves so that they develop self-confidence and critical thinking skills. I want students to play an active role in their education and feel certain in their abilities to perform in and out of the classroom. My goal is to have students leave the classroom with the knowledge and skills they can use for the remainder of their lives.
I look forward to working together as a team! Let's make this year amazing!

Classroom Library
We love to see our students reading here at TVCS! Reading a wide variety of books promotes comprehension in every subject and for the rest of their lives. To keep books easily accessible for my students, I have books available in my classroom as well as our school library. To view the books in my room, click here. Not all books are available for all students, so if you have any concerns, please let me know! Some books are only available if a student has a YA permission form on file with the library. If there are any books that you'd prefer I not let your student borrow, please contact me and I will make a note of it.
First Quarter: GRIT
We will be reading A Long Walk to Water. Students will be engaged in a GRIT project based on Angela Duckworth's GRIT TED talk. Students will be reading nonfiction texts about what it takes to be gritty and succeed in difficult situations.
Second Quarter: Man vs Nature
Our novel this quarter is Hatchet. We'll be diving into poetry and narrative writing.
Third Quarter: It's All Greek to Us!
This nine weeks we are reading excerpts from Black Ships Before Troy. This covers the epic story of The Iliad. We'll be exploring Greek root words and how they can help decipher meaning for unfamiliar words.
Fourth Quarter: We've Come Full Circle
Our final quarter this year, we will be reading Touching Spirit Bear and reviewing for our final FAST test.
Note: Units are subject to change.
