Welcome
Hello, everyone! I am Mrs. Montgomery, and I am elated to be your teacher this school term. I have been teaching for eight years and hold a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education and educational leadership. I am married to Mr. Rod Montgomery II, and together we have two talented boys - Christian and Rod III . In addition to teaching, I enjoy doing ministry with my husband and am passionate about all things pageantry.
I hope that you come to class each day with an open mind and a readiness to learn. My desire is for each of you to set goals for yourself and work diligently to achieve them. I believe in each one of you, and I am confident that you can and will succeed.
Remember, you are representatives of VCMS, and it is your responsibility to represent our school well. Let's make this a fantastic year together!

However, the book must be on grade level. The scholars will complete a four part assignment by instructor per quarter. Scholars have due dates for each assigned part. All novels must be approved by the instructor and parents. This will be a mastery grade. Scholars will have some class time to complete the assignments.

Assessments: All scholars grades will be determined by using the following categories and percentages:
Practice -- 30%
Performance (Mastery) -- 70%
Practice Grades consist of homework assignments, bellringers, lesson activities, daily work, etc.
Performance/Mastery Grades consist of any assignment or assessment that measures student mastery of content standards. Some examples include chapter and unit tests, quizzes, projects, lab reports, etc. (*See Late Grade Penalties Below)
Grading Scale: A (90-100) B (80-89) C (70-79) D (60-69) F (0-59)
Standards Based Assessment (SBA): Scholars will complete these short assessments at least 3 times each quarter in order to check their mastery of specific ELA standards. You will be able to see the results in Skyward. Our proficiency goal for these assessments is only a 60%; any score higher than that shows that they truly have mastered that skill!
Quarterly ELA i Ready requirement:
Q1: 9 passed lessons on their path
Q2: 9 passed lessons on their path
Q3: 9 passed lessons on their path
Q4: 9 passed lessons on their path
Note: I recommend that scholars spend 45– 50 minutes per week on i-Ready Online Instruction. Scholars must pass at least one lesson per week.
Make-up Work: If a student is absent from class for any reason, it is his or her responsibility to view Google Classroom and see the teacher upon return if there are questions. To receive credit for missed work, a student must turn in assignments within the number of days missed plus one. However, any assignment that has a previously determined due date, that due date must be observed unless arrangements have been made with the teacher.
Missing Assignments : According to school policy, any work that is turned in late, besides missing work due to an absence, will be graded in the following manner:
*Late Work: Practice assignments turned in 1 day late will be accepted for a maximum of 60% and those turned in 2 or more days late will receive a zero.
*Late Work: Mastery assignments must be completed, however, a late penalty will be applied.
We will be using Google Classroom for important information, due dates and assignments. Parents that desire to access their student's Google classroom will need to download the app and log in using their student's information.
