Green Team

Our Green Team Members:

Our Manifesto:

In our current climate, it is more important than ever that we address some of the environmental issues that the world faces. The Green Team aims to make Western House Academy greener - ‘one step at a time’ with their motto of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’.  In using the values of ‘teamwork’, ‘courage’ and ‘perseverance’ the members of the team work hard to ensure that the whole school recycles and reuses as much as possible. This ranges from the daily collection of paper and plastic bottles to the weekly collection of green compostable waste from the kitchen. The recycled paper is then emptied into the large recycling bins and the compost is emptied into the compost bins.

The Green Team are also ambassadors for the school grounds, and regularly pick litter on the playground with a team of volunteers from across the school. The team assists in the growing of fruit and vegetables in WHA’s garden area and some of this produce is sent to the kitchens and served up for the whole school to sample! The Green Team aims to create a green space that our community can be proud of and aims to influence change by educating, informing and involving our school community in eco activities. We teach our students to make daily informed choices that will benefit their health and wellbeing as well as support the sustainability of our ecosystem. Small steps are taken regularly to help the environment, such as using the water butts that collect rain water instead of using tap water. Great ideas are promoted too, such as, when you see a big tree, give it a big hug!

Our Green Team aims to add benefit by inducing positive change: for our students; school; local community; as well as our planet. The Green Team always strives to do better and harnesses the enthusiasm of students as a force for good. We believe in the motto, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Green Team Litter Presentation

Autumn Term update:

The Green Team have been busy this term with their routine jobs. They have a three week rota whereby they pick litter, collect compostable material and empty the recycling bins each week. This ensures that the school grounds remain clean and tidy and that the children in the school are helping to reduce waste by recycling and composting as much as possible. The team have also been harvesting some winter vegetables such as the unusual ‘romanesco’!

Please take some time to have a look at the Green Team's presentation on litter.
